A Sydney woman has shared how she was allegedly racially vilified by a man in a shopping centre, with her TikTok about the incident racking up tens of thousands of views.
Sydneysider Sara (@saralipservice) says she was shopping for her birthday after work last Friday, when all of a sudden she was confronted by racist rhetoric from someone in the store.
In a video that has now amassed tens of thousands of views, the inner city Sydney woman shared with her viewers how she responded to the alleged racism — in a way she admitted she would “not advise anyone else to do”.
“As I walked from the car park up the escalators and entered the shopping centre, a man came up to me and angrily said in my ear, ‘Go back to effing Asia’,” Sara alleged.
She then explained what went through her head upon hearing the comment, and what led her to engage in the public altercation.
“It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been on the receiving end of such overt racism, and I still very much have a zero-tolerance policy on this kind of behaviour,” she told her followers.
So, as Sara recounts, she “immediately and very loudly called him out on his vile racism.”
However, Sara’s confrontation didn’t end there.
Noting that she holds a “strong sense of justice”, the 38-year-old explained how she then went a step further and followed the man into another shop to call him out again.
Except this time, she filmed it to post online.
“I am sharing this because it would be great if his employer, colleagues, if he even has a job, friends and family, can see exactly what kind of person he is,” she said.
“And to be honest, I’m also very petty, and he messed with the wrong Asian today.”
Sara then shares in the video footage of herself following an unknown man around the shopping centre, while calling him a “fucking racist pig”.
The comments of the video were flooded with words of support for the Sydney woman for standing up for herself and taking a stand against the unacceptable behaviour.
“Good on you for standing up for yourself!” one person wrote.
“Bastards!!!!! So sorry you have to keep dealing with this! He absolutely messed with the wrong person,” said another.
