Sydney Sweeney is feeling blue—but not like that. We’re talking about blue hyaluronic acid, the hero ingredient in Laneige’s best-selling Water Bank Collection, which is debuting a formula makeover. To celebrate, they’ve tapped Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney to be their first celebrity partner. Laneige is all about water, much like Sweeney’s skincare routine. The molecules in blue hyaluronic acid are 2,000 times smaller than the hyaluronic acid in the previous Water Bank formula, meaning it’s absorbed quicker and deeper, making it even more effective. Sweeney spills her serious dedication to H20, the tricks and tips she’s picked up on the set of Euphoria and her beauty pet peeve.
Why did you want to partner with Laneige? Ever since I was little, like 12-years-old, I decided I was only gonna drink water for the rest of my life.
Did you stick to it? I stuck to it. Oh, I only drink water. And I fell in love with Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask and when I started learning more about their skincare products and their emphasis on hydration and water, I was like I love this company. I started using their products and I fell in love and it was a perfect combination of everything that they believe and stand for—and my skin loving it as well.
What do you like about the new Water Bank Collection? I am obsessed with their Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Serum. I put it on before any product that I use and then it just amplifies the nourishment. I love the packaging because this will not spill in your bag and I have a tendency of that happening. So, products that won't break open I fall in love with.
Can you walk me through your skincare routine? Morning and night I use the Laneige Clean Skin Milk Oil Cleanser. I put that on dry and I wipe all my makeup off with it and then I wash my face. Then I use their Cream Skin Mist; I love that stuff. And then I use the Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Serum and then the Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream Moisturizer. I usually ice roll also and I use little jade rollers and that’s it.
How has working on Euphoria influenced your own personal makeup routine? For season two, we had this thing where [makeup artist] Sam [Visser] really wanted our skin to come through and didn't want us to pile on makeup and foundation. It was more about being able to see the red marks and our pores on film. It was really beautiful because we were able to strip away a lot of the makeup and we emphasized our eyes or our lips and I learned being more comfortable and confident with my skin showing through on film. I became more in love with that than wearing like a shit ton of makeup. I started learning about different foundations that were just so beautiful on my skin that you couldn't tell I was wearing makeup and emphasizing my eyes.
Did you pick up any application tips for getting that Euphoria glow? I have been obsessed with the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. It's amazing and I use it with my Beautyblender; it's just flawless.
I love your water only philosophy. What is your general beauty philosophy? Always wash your face. Less is more. And it's always about what's on the inside that truly counts.
Since you’ve been exposed to so many professional makeup artists on sets, has that changed how you approach makeup? I definitely have learned way more in this industry, working with so many incredible makeup artists and different celebrities, but I feel like I've always stayed true to myself and who I am because I don't try and use tons of crazy products and try crazy things. I like to stay simple and myself and that's why I love when it's all just very concise for me.
What’s your desert island beauty staple? I hate chapped lips. So, the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I will die with beautiful lips.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about you? I'm actually a shy person. Very shy. If someone would have told me [about] the red carpets and the talk shows and that all of that came along with acting, I don't know if 12-year-old Syd would have followed through because 12-year-old Syd couldn't even do a school presentation.
