Sydney Sweeney recently shared an endearing story about her upcoming horror film, Immaculate, where she had the pleasure of having her grandmothers as co-stars. The actress flew her grandmothers to Europe for the first time to be extras in the movie, fulfilling her Grandy's dream of visiting Italy. They were cast as 'little old nuns' residing in the same Italian convent as Sweeney's character, Cecila.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sweeney revealed that one of her grandmothers was captured in a photo on set, dressed in a nun costume and enjoying a cigarette break. The actress fondly described her grandmother as 'iconic' and praised her for looking amazing in the nun attire.
Aside from her grandmothers, Sweeney also shared a personal connection to the horror genre through her father, who has a deep love for horror films. This passion influenced Sweeney's decision to produce Immaculate, as she had always wanted to work in that genre.
Interestingly, Sweeney had auditioned for a previous version of the movie when she was just 16 years old, but the project never materialized. Determined to bring the story to life, she took matters into her own hands a decade later and decided to produce the film herself.
After a decade-long journey, Immaculate is set to hit theaters on Friday, March 22. The film follows Cecillia, played by Sweeney, a religious woman who unknowingly moves into a haunted Italian convent nestled in the picturesque countryside.
