Sydney Sweeney was supposedly set to marry her business partner and fiancé Jonathan Davino this May but now the wedding is off, according to reports.
The 27-year-old actress had already sparked speculation when she deleted a picture of her 41-year-old businessman partner from her Instagram. Anonymous sources are briefing the press that the couple are going through a “rough patch”.
“Sydney and Jonathan have been having major issues but are not fully split,” reported People US. “Things are not great right now, but they aren’t throwing in the towel yet. They are working on their relationship but have called off the wedding for now.”

The pair were first photographed together at an afterparty for the Emmy’s, thrown by Hulu for the season 2 premiere of the Handmaid’s Tale held at the NoMad Hotel in Los Angeles. Sweeney played the role of Eden Spencer in the show, as a child bride who attempts to escape and is executed, before being cast in her breakout role of Cassie in Euphoria.
Davino is not a public figure and rumours swirled around that his family owned pizza restaurants — something Sweeney shut down in a 2023 interview with Glamour UK. “He’s not a restaurateur,” she said. “I have no idea where that came from. He’s also not the heir of a pizza company. He’s a business guy. He’s from Chicago.” Sweeney also said they’d been together six years by this time, suggesting their relationship officially began around 2017.

The couple are photographed together at a dinner party thrown by handbag brand Kate Spade and InStyle magazine.

Sweeney founds her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, where she focuses on adapting books by women authors. Davino is described as her co-producer in the business.

Another rare sighting of the couple came in 2020, when Sweeney was filming the first season of White Lotus in Hawai’i. Paparazzi photographed them relaxing on a beach in Maui and kissing in the sea.
February 2022
Sweeney gave an interview in Cosmopolitan (to a writer whose book she option for Fifty-Fifty Films) where she discussed her relationship with Davino and her decision not to date fellow celebrities. “I don’t date people in the spotlight. I don’t date actors or musicians or anyone in entertainment because I can just be normal Syd that way and it’s easiest,” she said.
Sweeney also described her ideal partner. “I look for a best friend,” she said. “I need to be able to be with someone who I can literally hang out with 24/7 and never get sick of and we laugh every single day.”
March 2022
People reports the couple’s engagement, with Sweeney photographed in February wearing a diamond ring on her left ring finger. Sweeney does not comment.
May 2023
The “engagement” ring is spotted again as Sweeney leaves the Hotel Martinez in Cannes, with her arm linked around Davino’s.
December 2023
Sweeney shuts down rumours about a relationship between her and her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell in an interview with Glamour UK and confirms she and Davino are still vey much an item.
“I’ve never really shared that much [about my relationship], so the press loves to create drama in stories,” she said. She also cleared up those pizza heir rumours and explained she prefers to keep things about her love life private.
“Everyone is always so curious about who I’m with and what’s that like, but I think it’s important to have something for me,” she said. “I talk about so much and sometimes it gets me in trouble, but I do try to keep something for me.
She added: I’ve been in a steady relationship for a really long time, which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age.”
Sweeney refused to comment on the engagement reports, but said that she “definitely will get married one day” and dreams of having four children that she can teach to ski.

Sweeney confirms the engagement while hosting Saturday Night Live, where she addresses the “crazy” rumours about her having an affair with Powell. “That’s obviously not true,” she bantered. “Me and my fiancé produced the movie together and he was there the entire shoot. I want everyone to know that he’s the man of my dreams and we’re still together and stronger than ever.”
When she said Davino was there to support her, the camera cut to Powell in the audience as a joke, before Sweeney clarified her fiancé was backstage in her dressing room.

Sweeney is named Glamour Women of the Year, and in the accompanying interview clears up preconceptions about the 14-year age gap in her relationship meaning Davino funds their films.
“I’m a very successful, independent woman who’s worked really hard,” she said. “I’ve accomplished and bought everything myself, and I provide for myself and my family.”
Davino is a creative partner, she clarifies, not a financial backer for Fifty Fifty Films.
“I would love to set the record straight,” she said. “You can be in a healthy relationship with someone and also be very successful without needing the man. We’re teammates. We’re in it together. And we want to see each other succeed.”

The couple have not been seen together since January 2025. Sweeney appears to delete a photo of her and Davino kissing on New Year’s Eve, while keeping the rest of the pictures in the carousel.
