Plant enthusiasts across the country have gathered to watch the exciting event which is the opening of Putricia, Sydney’s corpse flower. Although I am obsessed with the phenomenon that is the smell and look of Putricia, it’s the livestream comments that have sent me into orbit.
ICYMI, the Botanic Gardens Of Sydney is gearing up for an event of a lifetime. For the first time in 15 years, a Bunga Bangkai (corpse flower) named Putricia will be in bloom.
Alongside being one of the biggest flowers in the world, the endangered Bunga Bangkai is known for the stench that oozes from it when it blooms. According to the Botanic Gardens Of Sydney website, it has been described as “rotting flesh”, “wet socks”, “hot cat food” or for a more specific picture, “rotting possum flesh”.
Putricia is expected to be in full bloom sometime this week, and to satisfy the public’s curiosity about the flower, the gardens have put the diva on livestream.
While Putricia has yet to open up to us (relatable queen), punters in the live chat have kinda gone bonkers over her blooming.
Today, as Putricia inches towards her blooming glory, netizens were quick to comment on her appearance, describing her as “thicc” and stating that she’s “bulking”.
Some keen observers have also commented on the humidifier placed under the plant, with some describing Putricia as the “vaping plant” or pulling similarities to a rocket ship that’s about to blast off into space.
Impatient onlookers have also commented on Putricia’s refusal to bloom. To give you a quick recap, the plant was forecasted to bloom over the weekend. However, the Botanic Gardens Of Sydney has shared that it’s truly hard to estimate when exactly the corpse flower will open up.
As a result of last week’s reports, some folks have said Putricia is “edging” them, which is definitely one way to look at the wait.
Other people have defended Putricia, asking other folks to be patient regarding her big moment.
Although the main focal point of the livestream is the corpse flower herself, some online observers have also called out some of the folks who are there in person. Particularly one unlucky lad who was caught digging for gold in front of the camera.
And of course, with the internet being the internet, there is a collection of bizarre comments that have sent me into a tizzy, especially the one who described the livestream as an “OnlyFans for botanists”.
However, the biggest takeaway from the livestream is the acronym “WWTF”, which stands for “We Watch The Flower”. The origins of the acronym are a mystery. However, WWTF has appeared in the live chat multiple times.
That being said. No matter what you are — a celebrity, politician, someone with a hot mugshot or a plant — the internet will have something to say about you!
