Sydney photographer admits to child abuse material

Amateur photographer Genesis Cerezo pleaded guilty to possessing and producing child abuse material. (PR HANDOUT) (AAP)

A Sydney amateur photographer has pleaded guilty to producing child abuse material after police took a look at his cameras and computers.

Genesis Cerezo, 30, was on the other side of the lens on Thursday, appearing via video link in the Downing Centre Local Court.

"I've been told some charges are going to the District Court for trial and some are going up for sentence?" Magistrate Jennifer Atkinson said when Cerezo appeared on screen.

"That's right, mam," Cerezo said.

Cerezo will be sentenced after pleading guilty to possessing and producing child abuse material.

The charges relate to images and videos police found on his camera storage cards, computers, phones and cloud storage services after searching his Hurstville home in December 2021.

More than 1000 images and 120 videos showing prepubescent children involved in or witnessing a sexual act - classed by Interpol as "category one" material - were found on his iPhone.

The four child abuse material possession charges Cerezo faces all involve category one material, according to agreed facts signed by him, filed with the court and seen by AAP on Friday.

Cerezo has also pleaded guilty to using a child over 14 to make child abuse material.

Dozens of images taken by Cerezo in the months before her 16th birthday showed a girl in sexual poses and with her breasts exposed, according to the agreed facts.

A 26-second video zoomed in on her partially exposed genitals.

Police also uncovered a gel blaster, ceremonial dagger and an extendable baton Cerezo was not permitted to have.

He has pleaded guilty to weapon possession charges in relation to them.

Cerezo is due to be sentenced on April 21.
