New South Wales police commissioner Karen Webb stated on Saturday that early indications suggest the recent Sydney mall stabbing attack is not terror-related. However, she emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and cautioned against drawing final conclusions at this stage.
Webb informed reporters that the current evidence does not point towards a terror motive. She mentioned that the investigation will continue for an extended period, stating that it is too early to definitively determine the underlying cause of the attack.
Authorities believe that the suspect involved in the incident is a 40-year-old man. Due to ongoing background checks, Webb refrained from providing additional identification details about the individual.
Webb expressed confidence in assuring the public that there is no ongoing risk following the attack. She clarified that law enforcement is dealing with a single individual who has been confirmed deceased.
The suspect was fatally shot at the scene by a lone officer, as confirmed by the police earlier in the investigation.
