Sydney FC have bolstered their attacking options with the addition of former Celtic striker Patryk Klimala.

Klimala joins the A-League Men club on loan for the upcoming season from top-tier Polish club Slask Wroclaw, with an option to buy for the next season.

He has arrived in Australia as the Sky Blues prepare for their first AFC Champions League hit-out against Hong Kong club Eastern FC on September 19.

"I'm thrilled to be joining Sydney FC at an extremely exciting time for the club and for the A-League," the former Polish youth international said in a club statement.

"I've heard a lot about the passion for football in Australia, and I'm excited by Sydney FC's playing style which suits my game, as well as our Asian Champions League campaign.

"I understand Sydney FC has a rich history of winning trophies and I'm eager to contribute and create a legacy.

"In short, I can't wait to experience life Down Under."

Klimala will be looking for more game time after featuring in four matches for the Slask Wroclaw reserves team in 2024.

Beginning his club career in Poland, the 26-year-old sealed a move to Celtic in 2020 and won the Scottish Premiership and two Scottish Cups.

He moved on to Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls in 2021, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists across two seasons alongside former Sydney striker Fabio Gomes.

Klimala will wear Gomes' No.9 jersey after the on-loan Brazilian left the club at the end of the 2023/24 season.

"Patryk is a player we've had our eyes on for some time, he was absolutely our number one target so I'm delighted we've signed the deal," Sydney coach Ufuk Talay said.

"He's got great speed, he is strong in the air, and his work rate is exceptional.

"He is the type of forward who is always a threat in behind the defence, and he will bring a lot of energy to the team.

"I really like his hunger to score goals and his determination to improve."

Klimala is the latest in a clutch of international additions by Sydney, joining  Brazilians Douglas Costa and Leo Sena, and German midfielder Anas Ouahim.

The club is still seeking a central defender.
