Sydney FC are one win away from a record fourth consecutive A-League Women premiership after prevailing 3-0 over Adelaide United.
The Sky Blues went to 39 ALW points with the win at Leichhardt Oval, one clear of second placed Melbourne City but crucially they have a game in hand.
Sydney will wrap up the title if they can beat Canberra away on Wednesday afternoon in a match that was postponed earlier in the season due to thunderstorms .
If they don't, they will get a second crack at it on Sunday at home to Melbourne Victory on the final day of the regular season.
In two other ALW matches played on Sunday that had no bearing on the the finals, Canberra United beat Wellington Phoenix 1-0 and Brisbane accounted for Perth 2-0.
The Sky Blues opened the scoring against last placed Adelaide in the eighth minute through 18-year-old Caley Talon-Henniker.
A cross from Abbey Lemon, which the Adelaide defence thought might be going to Matildas star Courtnee Vine, was perfectly weighted for Talon-Hanniker who finished clinically at the far post.
Mackenzie Hawkesby unleashed a thunderbolt from outside the box to make it 2-0 in the 24th minute.
Vine sealed it with her 10th goal of the season in the second half.
In Brisbane it was the home side that found form with Kijah Stephenson and Sharn Freier scoring in the first half against Glory.
In Canberra, Matildas veteran Michelle Heyman headed the winner and her 15th goal of the ALW season in the 78th minute after a cross from Nickoletta Flannery.
Phoenix paid for squandering their chances.
Venezuela international Mariana Speckmaier had a great chance for Wellington with an open header after a cross by the always threatening Emma Main from the right wing but spurned the opportunity.
Flannery sprayed two shots wide for the hosts in the first half where Canberra captain Heyman was a constant threat.
Speckmaier set up Main with a lovely through-ball after the break but her shot was well saved by Canberra goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln.
