Sydney FC have signed former Serie A player Leo Sena on a two-year deal to fill the void left by ex-skipper Luke Brattan.

Defensive midfielder Sena is the latest international signing under A-League Men coach Ufuk Talay, with the 28-year-old joining from Brazilian club Agua Santa.

The Sky Blues signed Sena following Brattan's move to cross-city rivals Macarthur FC.

Sena featured in the club's pre-season friendly against the Bulls on Friday morning, leaving Talay confident the midfielder will be a classy asset in the squad's silverware bid.

"Leo is a quality individual and I'm delighted we have signed him," Talay said in a club statement.

"He is a great age for us and will give our young players the benefit of his experience.

"He has a fantastic engine for a midfielder. He keeps the ball incredibly well, makes quick, early decisions and has an excellent range of passing.

"He's a good tackler too so I'm looking forward to watching him integrate into the squad."

Sena began his career at Brazilian club Goiás Esporte Clube before eventually landing at Serie A club Spezia Calcio in 2020 following a successful loan spell.

Returning home to Brazil in 2022, Sena made the switch to the Bulgarian first division at the start of the last season before landing at the ALM club.

"It's a great opportunity for me to play for a great club in a highly competitive league," he said.

"I've had an excellent few days since my arrival here and I have a very good feeling about this season.

"We have some exciting young stars as well as some smart, more experienced players, and I think it's a great mix to challenge for silverware."

Sena joins German midfielder Anas Ouahim, who signed with the Sky Blues in July.
