Swords native Matt Doherty nets first Tottenham goal as Conte's side hammer Leeds

Matt Doherty scored his first Tottenham Hotspur goal to set Antonio Conté’s side on their way to an emphatic 4-0 Premier League win over Leeds United.

The Ireland international, restored to his favoured right wing-back position in place of Emerson Royal, put Spurs in front inside ten minutes at Elland Road.

Swords native Doherty made a perfectly timed run from the right to get on the end of fellow wing-back Stephen Sessognon’s low cross and smashed the ball past Illan Meslier.

It was an emphatic finish from the 30-year-old, who was restored to the first XI following Spurs’ shock 1-0 defeat at home to struggling Burnley during the week.

The former Bohemians and Wolves man has struggled for consistent gametime behind Serge Aurier, last season, and Royal this, but did himself no harm with a fine display.

Dejan Kulusevski and Harry Kane were also on target as Tottenham led 3-0 inside half an hour before Heung-Min Son added the fourth five minutes from time.

Kulusevski beat Meslier with a low shot at his near post from Doherty's pass before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg teed up Kane to take his tally to three in as many games.

Kane then set up Son for a superb finish to make it four, taking their partnership to 37 goals, a Premier League record, one clear of Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba at Chelsea.
