Switch Island blocked after crash as police issue traffic warning

Switch Island is currently blocked after a crash.

Merseyside Police's Roads Policing Unit confirmed that the busy junction that connects the M57, M58 and main roads leading to a number of towns in Merseyside was blocked when two cars collided on the road.

Posting a photo on social media, the two cars, both believed to be Citroens, collided, with one hitting an island and another hitting a crossing.

There were no injuries as a result of the crash, although police officers appear to have shut a portion of the road while the cars are recovered. The tweet, posted at 11.18am, said: "Partrols are currently dealing with a two vehicle collision at Switch Island.

"Thankfully no injuries to either driver. There may be some disruption whilst we recover the vehicles."

Traffic monitor INRIX said at the time of writing: "A59 Dunnings Bridge Road in both directions partially blocked, heavy traffic due to accident at M58 (Switch Island)."
