Swimming: Golds galore as Wavertree hosts Lancashire champs

The Lancashire County Championships got under way at Wavertree over the weekend with Evie Sampson of Southport setting three personal bests, including gold medals in the 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly.

Club colleagues Flynn Smith, Harrison Dale and Mia Robinson also collected gold medals.

Ethan Kelly led the Crosby team with two golds and a silver, with Madison Rens picking up two golds, whilst William Irvine set a number of personal bests, going under three minutes in the 200m breaststroke for the first time.

Prescot’s Lucy Parsons was impressive, setting PBs when taking gold in the 400m freestyle and bronze in the 200m backstroke.

It was a good weekend for Bootle, highlighted by Marley-Rose Garrett taking gold in the 200m breaststroke and Grace Morley setting three personal bests. Eleni Xynarianos of Bridgefield posted two PBs and Ben Shiels of Garston continued his good form with a PB in the 200m individual medley.

Max Harvey of Liverpool Penguins claimed bronze in the 200m breaststroke, and he had good support from Luke Curnyn and Joshua Morrison. Ormskirk’s Joshua Paul, Aimee Coy, Joni Dunne and Evie Warnock all set numerous PBs.

Over at Macclesfield in the Cheshire Championships Wirral Metro had huge successes, particularly from Gia Hothersall, Natasha McDonnell and Megan Pendleton.

Freddy Ball continued his success with four silvers whilst Reagan Young and Lily Horton added to their medal collections.

The most pleasing moment of the weekend was the return of Hoylake’s Ben Johnson after more than two years out with chronic illness and responding with a PB in the 200m breaststroke.

Team-mates Daniel French, Emily Fench and Luka Matellini were also impressive.

Bebington were well represented with Kaitlyn Ha, Lauren Berry, Andrew Dobbing, William Zeller, and Hermione Coakley-Hines all setting personal bests.

Bethany Howard-Hughes set the standard for Halton with two bonze medals ably supported by Mackinley Houghton, Ben Clayton, Olivia Hyland, Sam Shurie and Joshua Howard-Hughes.
