Edinburgh rockers Swim School have thanked Scots for giving them an audience at TRNSMT - despite being announced for the festival just six hours before taking to the stage.
The four-piece indie-pop outfit was booked as a last-minute replacement for Years and Years after it was forced to cancel due to illness. In a statement, Olly Alexander apologised to disappointed fans and expressed his hopes to return to the TRNSMT stage sometime in the future.
He said: “I’m so sorry for this but I won’t be performing tomorrow at TRNSMT, I have an infection and my doctor has told me I’m not well enough to do the show.
“I’m really sorry to anybody hoping to see us, I hate to do this and I’m absolutely gutted not to be there. I hope everybody has a great time at the festival and hopefully we can come back another time.”
Up-and-coming rockets Wet Leg were moved to the main stage to cover for the electronic act and Swim School were drafted in to plug the gap on the River Stage.
Taking to the stage with a grin on her face, blonde-haired frontwoman Alice Johnson said: “We got the call last night asking if we wanted to play. We were worried about how many people were going to turn up because it was so last minute but we couldn’t be happier.”
Scots basked in 23C heat as the four-piece took to the River Stage at 5pm. The temperature wasn’t lost on Alice, who quipped: “It’s bloody roasting!”
Swim School is comprised of Alice on vocals and guitar, Lewis Bunting on guitar, Nairn Milne on drums and Matt Mitchell on bass. The central belt group released its debut EP Making Sense of It All in August last year to critical acclaim.
Around 50,000 people are expected to descend on Glasgow Green today for day two of TRNSMT. However, the second day has been plagued by complaints from punters who say they waited hours to get into the festival, with some missing their favourite acts and calling for partial refunds.
