The Blackpill Lido has been named in the UK’s top five lidos.
Ahead of some restrictions easing, holidays abroad still seem out of the question for many with question marks over quarantining and traffic light lists.
Thankfully, whether you prefer experiencing a new culture, discovering local history, or diving into a cool pool, then there may be the perfect staycation solution for you: lidos.
A lido is an open-aired swimming pool or bathing beach open to the public.
Swansea’s outdoor waterpark, Blackpill Lido, is owned by the council and free of charge for public use. It has a paddling pool, children’s play area, climbing rock and picnic facilities. There are tall fountains for children to enjoy dodging as the water spills from a height.
The lido has its own picnic areas but is also surrounded by cafes for a refreshment. It is situated next to the Swansea promenade so you can even have a dip in the sea if you so wish.
UK Lidos have views and history to satisfy any family visit.
They originally popped up around the UK in the 1930s, when swimming was the height of fashion. Few remain, but Blackpill Lido has remained strong.
In its day, the paddling pool was bigger and even had boats.
Blackpill Lido is open 9am -5pm everyday until the end of August.
