Swansea Pride 2022: Everything you need to know as celebrations return to the city

The streets of Swansea are set to be transformed into a sea of colour and rainbow flags next month as Swansea Pride festival returns to the city. The festival, which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and raises awareness of LGBTQ+ issues in the city, last took place in Swansea in May 2019 - you can see a collection of our best photos from the event here - and will predominantly take place this year on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

Most of the festivities will be based at the National Waterfront Museum and Museum Green in Swansea city centre, but additional events are expected to take place in other locations too. Full details are expected to be shared nearer the date, but so far organisers have confirmed there will be a parade on Wind Street at 11am, followed by a festival and stalls at the National Waterfront Museum and Museum Green from 12pm to 7pm. The event is free to attend and is taking place in partnership with Swansea Council, the National Waterfront Museum and Jermin Productions.

The Swansea Pride community group is run by a team of dedicated volunteer trustees and registered as a charitable incorporated organisation in 2019. It has hosted the Spring Pride 2018 event in Swansea and the week-long Swansea Pride festival in 2019.

As well as the parade and festival at the National Waterfront Museum this year, other Pride events are expected to take place across the city. Among them is a "PYNK Pride Party" taking place at Elysium Gallery on the High Street in the city centre on Friday, April 29 2022 from 8pm to 1am. This event is for people aged 18+ and costs £5 each, but organisers say no-one will be turned away for lack of funds.

The Pride Party will feature "the usual mix of friendly faces, fabulous events and good music," organisers PYNK say. PYNK defines itself as a "queer dance party for every body". You can read more about their event here. You can subscribe to our LGBTQ+ newsletter here.
