Swansea has been covered with graffiti about Boris Johnson and 'partygate'

Graffiti mocking the 'partygate' scandal engulfing Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Government has appeared on doors, bins and windows all around Swansea City Centre.

It comes after a limited version of civil servant Sue Gray's report into parties at No. 10 Downing Street and Whitehall criticised a "serious failure" to observe the high standards expected of those working at the heart of Government.

The report lists 16 gatherings that are alleged to have taken place throughout 2020 and 2021. You can read the full report here.

There have also been reports since then that the Prime Minister was in his flat on the night of an ABBA-themed event, on November 13, 2020, which is being investigated by police.

One prolific graffiti 'artist', it seems, has been particularly bothered by the scandal. A Swansea local who couldn't help but spot the scrawlings as they were spread so widely covering so many surfaces, said: "I've noticed graffiti like this around the city centre for quite a few months now. It's sometimes removed or covered up, but it's always back within a few days.

"This week, it's mostly stuff about Boris Johnson, about the party scandal in particular.

"I've noticed it in the most random places - on bins, on windows and on doors. It's particularly abundant on High Street."

She added: "The graffiti isn't only about the Prime Minister, there's often stuff about anti-vaccination, that sort of stuff. Anti-vaccination graffiti tends to get covered up quickly, though.

"It looks like the same person that's doing it, but they seem to be on a mission."

Sue Gray was unable to publish the full findings of her report due to the Met Police inquiries.

The Met Police investigation is expected to take just a few weeks and No 10 has has u-turned from a previous position, now confirming that the public will be informed if Boris Johnson is fined over 'partygate' lockdown breaches, deeming it "significant public interest".

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer repeated his call for Mr Johnson to quit, as he told the BBC: "It's no good him trying to blame politicians in general. There's one person at the centre of this who has caused all of those problems and is subject to a criminal investigation because of his own behaviour.

"That's why I genuinely think that the time has come for him to go."

Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab, however, defended Mr Johnson, saying he "believes he acted in good faith at all times", suggesting the Prime Minister does not think he personally did anything wrong.

When asked whether Mr Johnson should quit if he was issued with a fixed penalty notice, Mr Raab said: "Let's wait and see … Allow the police to conduct their investigation and see, when they have ascertained the facts, quite what they conclude."
