Swansea City v Stoke City player ratings as star has fans on pins and attacker stands out from team-mates

ANDY FISHER 4

Couldn't get in the way of Josh Laurent's first goal and was helpless with the second. Had the home fans on edge all night with some hugely risky play out from the back. Wasn't helped by his outfield players, but didn't cover himself in glory with Lewis Baker's injury-time strike.

BEN CABANGO 5

Some good moments in possession and made plenty of clearances but found it really tough in his battle with Tyrese Campbell on the right side of Swansea's defence. Booked for a poor foul straight after half-time though and grew frustrated.

NATHAN WOOD 5

Made plenty of clearances and was generally one of Swansea's better players in possession aside from one costly moment in the first-half.

HARRY DARLING 4

Had a tough start to proceedings as Stoke pressed time and time again. Hooked after half an hour to allow Swansea to change shape.

MATTY SORINOLA 5

His lofted ball led to Morgan Whittaker firing home the opener inside two minutes and he showed great energy to get up and down the right flank. Became somewhat sloppy in the second half though as he tired and was duly subbed.

JOE ALLEN 5

On the whole, the midfielder was tidy on the ball but was often met with a fierce Stoke press. Subbed in the second half after tiring.

MATT GRIMES 5

Did some timely defensive work but couldn't find the killer instinct in the Stoke half.

RYAN MANNING 6

Got up the left wing well and put in a fine cross for Whittaker in the first-half in addition to testing Matija Sarkic from the edge of the box. Tougher second-half and naturally found himself deeper after switching to a back four.

OLLIE COOPER - Star Man 7

The Welshman - being watched by Wales boss Rob Page - was Swansea's best performer in the first 45, relentlessly driving at the Stoke defence and playing a key role in his side's best attacks. Did plenty of defensive work too. Didn't deserve to be involved in such a poor team display.

MORGAN WHITTAKER 6

On his first league start for the club since May 2021, Whittaker coolly prodded beyond Sarkic after taking Sorinola's long ball down on his chest. Pressed well but spurned a great chance late on in the first-half. Was more isolated in the second half but stuck to task and worked hard.

JOEL PIROE 5

Linked up well with Whittaker at times and must have thought he had scored shortly after Stoke's second goal, only for Sarkic to make a stunning save. Didn't get a sniff after that chance though and was unable to have much of an impact in the second half.

Subs

Olivier Ntcham (for Darling) - Didn't really grab the game by the scruff of the neck as was needed. A few efforts late on but didn't really trouble Stoke. 5

Liam Walsh (for Allen) - Looked positive during his brief time on the pitch and will be glad to get minutes under his belt. 6

Liam Cullen (for Sorinola) - Didn't have much time to impact things. N/A
