Swansea will be in the market for a keeper this summer. with Steven Benda still recovering from serious injury and short-term cover signing Andreas Sondergaard having left after the end of last season.

No bad eggs in team - Pato

Jamie Paterson says Swansea’s trip to Spain enhanced the team’s bond as new faces arrive at the club.

New boss Michael Duff and his staff took the players away for a week-long training camp, arriving back in south Wales yesterday.

While they were away Paterson was keeping fans up to speed with what they were doing, posting one video of players absolutely out on their feet after a gruelling session.

They have also had some time to relax and bond with each other, with Paterson saying there are no “bad eggs” in the camp - helping the team be even better as a collective.

“That video was class, wasn’t it?” said the midfielder.

“I’ve got a few more but that one was the best one because there were four people in a row.

“I had a fair few replies from Swansea fans on that one saying ‘glad to see you’re working hard’. You’ve got to show the fans that you’re working hard, haven’t you?

“The time in Spain has been fun. It’s been hard work, especially in this weather, but it’s been good to get everyone away having a laugh together.

“When you’ve had a long break it’s always fun to see the lads as well. It’s a bit of everything really, because we get to know the staff more too.

“The lads went and played golf on Wednesday. I don’t mind golf but I’m not great at it, I get bored after a few holes and it’s too hot for me. So me, Naughts, and Jay [Fulton] chilled around the pool and did a bit of a gym session.

“We just tried to relax a bit knowing we had another two days of hard work to go.

“The downtime is all part of it. We all get along and we’ve got a great bunch of lads – I know everyone says that in interviews but we do have a great group, there’s not one bad egg in the group which is key to creating a good team.”

Laird signs for Blues on permanent deal

Former Swansea loan man Ethan Laird has signed for league rivals Birmingham City on a three-year deal.

Laird was a hit in south Wales during his six-month stint at the Swansea.com Stadium on loan from Manchester United.

He has left Old Trafford permanently for a fee of just £750,000.

The 21-year-old also spent stints with Bournemouth and QPR.

He said: “It feels great. I feel like this is important to me now, this is the time where I get to showcase myself and not really think about anything else. It is a new step, a new pathway now and I am excited to get started.”

In a goodbye message to United fans on Instagram, Laird added: “It’s time to say goodbye @manchesterunited been at United since I was 10 coming through the ranks at this great club has been a huge privilege for me.

“It’s always been my dream to play for United so making my first team debut in 2019 in the Europa League was a dream come true. I want to thank everyone at the club for giving me the opportunity, especially my coaches and my teammates during the last 11 years.

“It’s time for me to take the next step in my football journey. When one door closes another one opens. And I pray that God continues to guide me with every decision I make for it’s for his glory not mine. I hope that our paths will cross again in the future if it is God’s will! Lairdo outt.”
