Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City news for Monday, January 9.
Swans face competition for Gelhardt
Swansea City are keen on landing Leeds United youngster Joe Gelhardt on loan this month, but will likely face plenty of competition for his signature.
Links with the 20-year-old forward emerged over the weekend, and Swansea's interest in the youngster is understood to be genuine.
However, sources have told WalesOnline that any potential deal is dependent on several factors, with a number of other clubs believed to be monitoring his situation.
Indeed, there still appears to be some uncertainty over whether the youngster will even be allowed to leave Elland Road this January, with reporter Alan Nixon suggesting Leeds had not yet given the green light to a loan exit.
However, the arrival of Hoffenheim striker Georginio Rutter could change the landscape, and perhaps edge Gelhardt further out the door.
The former Wigan starlet played over 70 minutes of United's 2-2 draw with Cardiff City in the FA Cup third round, and boss Jesse Marsch was in no mood to entertain talk of a possible exit when quizzed at the Cardiff City Stadium.
"I don't want to discuss that," he said. "We really like Joffy."
He added: "When they are so compact, it's not easiest for him to find a game. The whole first half it's hard to pinpoint one thing.
"It was just not in sync, not aggressive enough. Not the full understanding of what this game was going to require. That's why the subs came on and made an impact."
Benda apologises
Swansea City goalkeeper Steven Benda has taken to social media to apologise to fans, after his mistake saw his side pinned back to a 1-1 draw at the hands of Bristol City in the FA Cup third round at Ashton Gate.
Benda was arguably beaten all too easily by Robins striker Antoine Semenyo, whose tame late header salvaged a draw for the hosts, with Nigel Pearson's men now set to travel to the Swansea.com Stadium on January 17 for a replay.
The German has since taken to his official Twitter page to issue an apology to supporters, tweeting after the game: "Thank you for your brilliant support again. I need to be better. Time to get back to work."
Swansea are back in Championship action this weekend, with Russell Martin's side set to make the long trip to Wearside to take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Martinez named Portugal boss
Former Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez has been named as the new Portugal head coach.
Martinez replaces the outgoing Fernando Santos, who resigned after Portugal's quarter-final defeat by Morocco at the World Cup.
The Spaniard himself stood down as Belgium coach following last month's tournament, ending a six-year stint with the Red Devils following their group-stage exit.
"I am very happy to represent one of the national teams with the best talent in the world," said Martinez.
"I am very excited to be here. From the first time I spoke with the president of the federation I knew this was a sporting project that would excite me.
"I understand there are great expectations and big objectives, but there is a great team of people at the federation and I have great excitement that together we can achieve those objectives."
Portugal football president Fernando Gomes said: "This is an important moment for the national team."
Lati - We needed to make first half count
Joel Latibeaudiere admits Swansea City failed to capitalise on a promising first half as they allowed their lead to slip against Bristol City in the FA Cup third round at Ashton Gate.
“In the first half, I thought we were really good,” he said after the game.
“We started off a bit slow and conceded a couple of early free-kicks, but I felt like the reaction to that was great.
“We have put so much work into moving the ball and played with so much intensity, but I also feel like we can’t come in at half-time only 1-0 up after a first-half performance like that.
“In the second half, we knew they were going to have a spell because they’re at home and the crowd is up.
"Every team has a spell in home games, and we just didn’t match it. It’s disappointing to come away with a draw especially after the performance in the first half.
“It’s a good reminder that if we drop in intensity and go away from what we believe in and what we work on, then teams can get a goal and a result against us.”
