Martin departure a wake-up call
Russell Martin's move to Southampton has to be seen as a wake up call by the Swansea City hierarchy.
That's the view of Swans legend Nathan Dyer, who believes a failure to provide Martin with financial backing was at least part of the reason behind his move to St Mary's.

"Financial backing is a massive thing and they are going to have to do that," he told the BBC.
"I hope that this can be a little bit of a wake-up call. That's going to show their intent as a football club and show to the fans what they want to do moving forward.
"Managers need that backing and they need that backing from the owners to move forward.
"They can't continue to do a good job on less and I think that's what Russell has done. He's done a very good job with less.
"I think a lot of fans need to understand that a lot of the players that he's brought through and the players in this squad at this moment in time, a lot have never played professional football before and have had a great chance to come in and have done well."
Michael Duff is understood to be on the brink of replacing Martin in the Swans hot-seat, with the 45-year-old set to sign a three-year deal in SA1.
Nzingo joins
Irish midfielder Glory Nzingo has joined Swansea City’s academy after completing a move from Stade de Reims for an undisclosed fee.
Nzingo has signed a three-year contract with the Swans, and will link up with Anthony Wright's under-21 squad for the upcoming season.
Before his move to France, the Republic of Ireland youth International came through the ranks at League of Ireland Premier Division side St. Patrick's Athletic, and made his first-team debut in a pre-season friendly against Chelsea in 2019, aged just 14.
Commenting on the move, Swansea City academy manager Andy Goldie said: “Central midfield is a position where we have a real depth of talent, many of whom have impacted the first team already.
"However Glory is a player we have monitored since before Covid, and he offers an exciting profile and dimension to what we already have in that area of the pitch.
"We’re delighted to eventually be able to welcome him to Swansea City, and thank Yann Kombouaré and Stade de Reims for their cooperation and professionalism throughout the process.
"Recognition must also go to Jack Chapman, Rebecca Gigg and Ben Greenwood, for all their hard work and efforts in Glory’s signing.”
Williams seals TNS return
Welsh champions The New Saints have sealed a reunion with Swansea City midfielder Dan Williams.
The 22-year-old is set to make a permanent move to Park Hall following the expiration of his current deal in SA1, having previously spent last season there on loan, netting two goals.
Commenting on his move back to Oswestry, Williams said: “I am delighted to return to Park Hall on a permanent basis. Since joining the club last September, Craig and the rest of the squad have made me feel right at home, so I am thrilled to be back here.
“It was great to play a key part in last season’s success but we have big ambitions to do even better this season starting with the UEFA Champions League fixtures in a couple of weeks’ time. The club has success within its DNA so I can’t wait for the season ahead”
Swans to face Northampton in Carabao Cup
Swansea City will host Northampton Town at the Swansea.com Stadium in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
It's the second time the two sides have been drawn together in the Carabao Cup, with the last meeting coming in 2019.
On that occasion, a brace from Andre Ayew inspired the Swans to come from behind and earn a 3-1 win.
This latest meeting will take place in the week commencing August 7.
