Swansea City transfer news as promising free agent linked, ex-loan man a £20m target and cult hero names perfect XI

These are your Swansea City headlines on Sunday, May 29

Free agent on radar

Swansea and Blackpool have joined Hull City in keeping tabs on Gillingham centre-back Jack Tucker.

The Sun report that free agent Tucker, 22, is generating interest from the Championship. Tucker was relegated with the Gills this term, with Neil Harris’ men set to play their football in League Two next season.

Tucker is out of contract and is set for a move to the second tier. Our colleagues at YorkshireLive report Sheffield Wednesday are also interested.

Swansea head coach Russell Martin is in the market for defensive additions this summer, with chief executive Julian Winter revealing earlier this month a right-wingback and two centre-backs would be their transfer priorities. MK Dons’ Harry Darling remains of interest.

Former loan men attracting interest

Staying with The Sun, they report that Southampton are keen on signing former Swansea loan man Morgan Gibbs-White - for the princely sum of £20million.

Gibbs-White was signed by Steve Cooper from Wolves but made only a handful of appearances for Swansea due to injury. He was recalled by his parent club, going on to spend the next season with Sheffield United. He has flourished at Bramall Lane and has attracted admiring glances from Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Meanwhile, another ex-loan man, striker Viktor Gyokeres, is on Fulham’s radar, while Middlesbrough are also interested in the Coventry City striker.

Richards extends stay

Jazz Richards has extended his stay with JD Cymru Premier club Haverfordwest Town.

The former Swansea defender has penned a two-year extension. The 31-year-old joined the Bluebirds in March last year and has made 34 appearances for the club in all competitions since.

On their website, the club stated: “Ever since his arrival at the club 14 months ago, Jazz has been a real asset, not only to the football club – where he has embraced the community and the local area – but also to the league, with his presence helping to attract added attention and provide real credibility to Wales’ top flight – which continues to go from strength to strength.

“The club are over the moon to have retained someone with the quality and experience that Jazz possesses, as we look to build on our performances from the last two seasons in the JD Cymru Premier.”

Akinfenwa names perfect XI

Adebayo Akinfenwa has named his perfect XI from players he played alongside, with six former Swans making the cut.

Akinfenwa hung up his boots last weekend when Wycombe Wanderers lost to Sunderland in the League One play-off final. It brought to an end a long career for the striker, who is now set to take Beast Mode into his media work.

In FourFourTwo magazine, Akinfenwa picks Garry Monk, Leon Britton, Roberto Martinez, Andy Robinson, Lee Trundle and Leon Knight in his dream XI.

On Trunds, he said: “The best I’ve played alongside, no question. Lee was my education at Swansea. I learned so much from him; how to deal with pressure, the opposition’s fans and expectations. What a man and what a footballer. There was nothing his left foot couldn’t do.”

Akinfenwa's XI: David Stockdale; Kyle Walker, Garry Monk, Joe Jacobson; Eberechi Eze, Leon Britton; Roberto Martinez, Andy Robinson; Cody McDonald, Lee Trundle, Leon Knight.
