Swansea City transfer news as Paterson future takes big twist and Martin goes on record with Rangers' Whittaker bid

These are your Swansea City headlines on Wednesday, January 18

Pato interest cools

Our colleagues at CoventryLive state the Sky Blues "are not currently pursuing an interest" in Swansea attacker Jamie Paterson.

Speaking about Paterson in his press conference last week, head coach Russell Martin said: "There's lots of interest in Pato. We'll just have to wait and see really.

"There is a lot of interest, discussion and talks. Nothing concrete as of yet."

Paterson was told by the club's coaching staff that he could leave this month, and hometown club Coventry have been seen as the leading candidates for his signature.

But interest appears to have cooled somewhat, with our sister title reporting: "While he’s just the type of player (Mark) Robins is looking for and everything would appear to fit, CoventryLive understands the Sky Blues are not currently pursuing an interest in the player."

This one is likely to run and run. Watch this space.

Martin confirms Rangers bid

Meanwhile, Martin is set to hold talks with those at top of the house today over outgoings at Swansea.

The head coach aired his frustration over the lack of incomings after the game against Bristol City on Tuesday night, and revealed he'll talk with Julian Winter and Josh Marsh today over the latest state of play amid bids for Morgan Whittaker and Michael Obafemi. You can read more about that here.

Martin has now confirmed that it was indeed Rangers who bid for Whittaker, telling the BBC: "We have rejected an offer from them, that's it."

The Scottish side's package is said to be well below what Swansea want for the former Derby County man.

On Obafemi, who has been the subject of bids from Burnley, Martin added: "No-one is selling anyone on the cheap - they are good players.

"We will just have to wait and see. It's not my remit - I don't value the players, I don't negotiate with the other clubs.

"We have rejected bids for Michael and Morgan. That's where that remains really.

"I am really bored of talking about it. I understand you have to ask the question but until someone goes I will just keep repeating the same answer."

Wood: We should have won first tie

Disappointed Swansea defender Nathan Wood said they should have put their FA Cup battle with Bristol City to bed in the first tie.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate earlier this month and faced each other again in south Wales on Tuesday, with extra time needed to separate them.

It was the away side who progressed to round four and Wood believes they should have seen them off in the original fixture.

“It’s disappointing to go out of the cup, but we were disappointed not to win at their place to be honest,” he said.

“It felt like we dominated possession and had lots of final third entries, but it just feels like we didn’t have the end product which we have shown we can have at times this season.

“I feel from our point of view, we could have made improvements in all of the games we’ve played against Bristol City. I think if we show the best of ourselves then we should be winning the game.”

“It’s so important for everyone to be playing and to be ready in every game and at all times,” he added.

“It’s good that some of the boys got to play and there were some good performances too.

“Obviously that stands us in good stead going forward because everyone’s got a game under their belt ahead of the upcoming league matches.”
