Swansea City transfer news as Olivier Ntcham rumours get response and Josh Key tells fans what they are getting

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Wednesday, July 5.

Ntcham rumours dismissed but Swans future remains uncertain

Rumours linking Olivier Ntcham with a move to Spanish side Rayo Vallecano are wide of the mark, sources have told WalesOnline.

However, the Cameroonian's future at the club remains uncertain.

Ntcham currently has one year left on his current deal, and there has so far been no indication of an extension, causing some to question whether he will be moved on before the end of the summer window.

Speculation linking him with a move to Spain has gathered pace on social media in the last few days, but it's understood there is nothing currently on the table from anyone at this stage.

As things stand, Ntcham is believed to be ready to see out the final year of his contract, before potentially reassessing his future next summer.

Of course, as with any player in Michael Duff's squad, a suitable offer could well change the landscape.

Key's pledge to Swans fans as he bids to follow in Grimes' footsteps

Josh Key has promised the Jack Army he's ready to knuckle down and give his all to the cause at Swansea City.

The 23-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Swans after turning down the offer of a new deal at Exeter City, where he previously spent eight years of his career.

Describing his approach as a player, he said: “I am an attack-minded defender. I like to get forward and get balls in the box, but I am also a willing defender.

“If I need to get back and defend I will, and I will put all my effort into defending. You will see a high work-rate from me.

“I will give my all on the pitch, I won’t leave anything out there. One thing you will get from me is work-rate and I will want to show that every week on the pitch."

The move gives Key the chance to step up to Championship football, but with several other sides taking a keen interest in his signature, the passion of the Jack Army was clearly a factor in the player's decision.

“It’s easy to say, but I have heard so much about the fanbase here and how united they are, and as a player you want that behind you and you want to do well for people like that," he added.

“So, I hope we can work together. As a team we can play for the fans, and the fans can help us do well this year. I want to be a part of that.”

Key follows in the footsteps of Swans skipper Matt Grimes in trading St James Park for the Swansea.com Stadium, and Key admits he's keen to replicate the midfielder's success in south Wales.

“Every player has to back themselves, and I saw what he did when he was at Exeter and the type of person and man he is now,” he added.

“I have seen what he has done here, and how much everyone loves him. The type of player he is, he is renowned in the Championship as a top player, so if I can have any success like that here then I would be really happy."

Faakye signs first pro deal

Swansea City youngster Richard Faakye has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The defender has agreed terms through to the summer of 2024., having arrived at the club in the summer of 2021.

Previously on the books of Crystal Palace, the 18-year-old was a pivotal presence at the back for the under-18s last season, taking the captain's armband on numerous occasions.

Faakye also made his under-21s debut against Exeter City in the Premier League Cup in September 2021 at the age of 16.

Dingley hails Molby inspiration

Hannah Dingley has cited former Swansea City boss Jan Molby as one of her key coaching influences, as she gears up to take a historic step with Forest Green Rovers.

Dingley, who's originally from Carmarthen, has become the first female coach to take charge of a pro team in the men's game, and will take interim charge of Rovers following the departure of Duncan Ferguson.

Having previously been a part of the club's academy, Dingley has previously revealed how the influence of the Swans helped lay the groundwork for her ambitions as a coach.

“When I left school I did a BTEC in a college in Llanelli,” she previously told i. “I was the only girl on a course full of boys. I did work experience at Swansea City. This was when they were still playing at the Vetch Field, and I worked there all week. I was watching training under the manager, who was Jan Molby at the time, and then came back on a matchday on a Saturday.

"That buzz of walking into the stadium, of how different it was from working the 9am-5pm on a weekday, completely took my breath away. It was in the middle of a housing estate, and you’re walking with all the fans who are waiting to watch their team. I just thought, ‘this is unbelievable. This is what I want to do.’ It got under my skin.”
