Swans ready to make offer for Palace youngster
Swansea City are reportedly readying a summer deal for Crystal Palace youngster Killian Phillips.
Reports over the weekend first linked the Swans with a 20-year-old, and Football Insider now claims the club are ready to make a move when the player's contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
However, the same report claims the Swans are "among a host of Championship clubs" believed to be keen, meaning competition for his signature could well be fierce.
It's also believed the player himself is keen to keep his options open at this stage.
Phillips is currently on loan at Shrewsbury Town after joining the League One outfit on loan in January.
Since joining the Shrews he has made nine league appearances, scoring once and registering two assists.
Martin eager to find spark at Luton
Russell Martin admits Swansea City need to find the spark needed to to reignite their season at Luton Town this weekend.
The Swans head to Kenilworth Road on the back of a recent draw against Rotherham United, and are on a tough run of results, which Martin admits has had an impact on the confidence of the squad.
“We need something to spark us and get the confidence back,” he said.
“Going through this tough moment will definitely benefit the younger players in the future, but we need to deal with it quickly.
“We have enough here to finish the season strongly. You can sink or swim, you can grow or you can let it affect you.
“It’s about the mentality to stick together and see it through. We know we have to help the lads manage the game better on a matchday, that is for us to work out.
“But we will do it without compromising on what we believe in, and the players believe in as well.”
Rushesha thrilled to be back
Young Swansea City defender Tivonge Rushesha says he's thrilled to be back in action after spending the last 10 months injured on the sidelines.
Rushesha, who recently appeared in the under-21s clashes with Watford and Colchester, made his senior debut at the age of just 17, taking the field in the Carabao Cup win over Cambridge United back in 2019. He's since been tipped for big things by Landore insiders.
Despite his progress being stunted by an ACL injury in December 2020, he was also named the under-23s' player of the season last term.
However, injury struck again and he has had to work hard to recover once more.
“I tore my ACL in my left leg last April, so I was out for 10 months. I had my operation on my knee two weeks later," said Rushesha.
“My first ACL injury was back in December 2020 and, after I recovered, I was back for seven months before being out again.
“It’s been a long process without being on the pitch, but I’ve been working hard in the gym, on myself and on the training pitch when I can.
“It was tough, because all I wanted to do was to play football. I’ve done my ACL before and I was also out for a long term, so I kind of knew what to expect, I knew what to look out for and I knew what to avoid.
“It went a bit smoother than last time because I have experienced it before, but it’s still not a pleasant process to go through.
“Mentally it was tough, but so many people helped me through it. The staff have been so supportive and great."
Former Swans coach brought into Wales set-up
Rob Page has appointed Manchester United first-team coach Eric Ramsay as his new Wales assistant ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, which gets underway this month.
Ramsay, who comes from mid-Wales, began his coaching career at Swansea City before heading to Shrewsbury Town. The Welshman then joined Chelsea in 2019 as their under-23s coach before moving to Manchester United's first team in 2021.
The appointment comes after Page's previous assistant, Kit Symons, lost his job in January following a disappointing showing the World Cup.
Ramsey, who will combine his role with Wales alongside his duties at Old Trafford, was initially tasked with focusing on set-pieces and technical skills at Manchester United and is highly regarded by the Premier League giants.
On his new role, Ramsay said: “Having grown up in Llanfyllin, I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Welsh set-up. There’s so much excitement around the national team and its recent success, it’s a great time to be joining.
"With the squad having gone through a slight transition it feels like a new beginning. I’ve already had some good conversations with Rob and Alan Knill, so I think the ingredients are there for it to be an exciting time.”
