Swans linked with Fiorentina star
Swansea City are reportedly eyeing up a move for Fiorentina defender Jacob Rasmussen.
According to Football Insider, the Swans have identified the 25-year-old as a possible target this summer, but could face competition from Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers.
Rasmussen has slipped down the pecking order at the Serie A side recently, and has spent the last two season out on loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, where he's been a regular, making 72 appearances for the club, scoring three goals.
The Swans have already brought two centre-backs in this summer, with Harry Darling and Nathan Wood already coming on board.
Joel Latibeaudiere and Kyle Naughton are also likely to be in contention to feature at the centre of the Swans defence, while Ben Cabango is set to return from injury.
It's a position that clearly already holds plenty of options for Martin, but reports clearly believe he's looking to strengthen further.
Martin gives update on wing-back search
Russell Martin has once again stressed that Swansea City will likely need to ship players out before they can bring in any new faces before the end of the transfer window.
Martin is understood to be keen on strengthening his wing-back options before the close of the window, but further incomings now appear unlikely until more players are moved out the door.
Speaking about his transfer plans on BBC Radio Wales, Martin said: "We've got quite a big squad. Some guys have a lot of players in their position, so are maybe aren't going to play so much and I think the priority, financially, is getting people out playing football somewhere else, which can maybe then enable us to maybe bring someone in.
"We'll have to wait and see. There's a couple of areas we'd still like to strengthen, of course. If you speak to any manager over the next few days, they'll probably say the same. They always want more."
Piroe eager to set the tone with Millers clash
Joel Piroe hopes Swansea City can set the tone for the season ahead with a front-foot performance against newly-promoted Rotherham on Saturday.
Promotion from League One last term meant the Millers kept up their curious record of either being promoted to or relegated from the Championship every season since 2016-17.
The south Yorkshire outfit will clearly have a point to prove, starting with Saturday's curtain raiser at the New York Stadium, and Piroe says the Swans won't be taking anything for granted.
“Rotherham don’t have much to lose, but for us they are the first opponent and we want to win,” he said. “We just have to go there, stick to our style, take care of the ball and play for each other.
“You saw last season that we started the season playing a different way home and away. This season, we want to go into it starting off playing the same way away as we do at home. We know as a team what we want to achieve so we can’t wait for it to start."
Dobbie's new role
Former Swansea City goal machine Stephen Dobbie has returned to Blackpool to take up a coaching role.
The 39-year-old is set to take charge of the club's newly-formed development squad, which will aim to bridge the gap between the under-18s and the first team.
Dobbie decided to call time on his playing career back in May, and is eager to get started in his new role.
“It’s fantastic to be coming back here to Blackpool,” he said. “I’m looking forward to working with a really good group of people and helping the club’s young players to progress in their careers."
