Swansea City transfer news as Martin makes Spain trip, Euro giants want striker and trio turn up at under-21s match

These are your Swansea City headlines on Monday, April 3.

Martin hails academy products

Russell Martin praised Swansea’s academy products in the aftermath of Saturday's stunning South Wales derby win.

Production line graduates Liam Cullen and Ben Cabango both netted goals in the win at Cardiff City Stadium and Martin says he's been keeping a close eye on the stars of the future, recently travelling to Spain to watch Wales Under-21s.

“What a brilliant story for us a club, and for them as players,” said Martin.

“The academy is going to be so important, and we spend a lot of time with those guys and watching them and having them as part of our group.

“During the international break I went over to Spain to see how the guys were doing with Wales Under-21’s and Azeem (Abdulai) with Scotland, too.

“It’s massive, the academy is so important, it has been a big part of what we’re trying to build.

“They spend a lot of time with us, the support between us has been great and long may that continue.”

Swans' top winter target interesting European giants

Swansea's main January target, Chiedozie Ogbene, is thought to be of interest to European giants Fenerbahçe.

The versatile Rotherham United player was a top target for the Swans in January, but a move never materialised.

The Republic of Ireland International scored in both fixtures against the Swans this season, and is likely to be a man in demand again at the end of the season. Indeed, Turkish media are reporting that Fenerbahçe are also now keen on the 25-year-old.

Championship big hitters Sheffield United and West Brom are among the others recently credited with an interest in the attacker, who is a free agent in the summer.

Coaching staff watch under-21s beat Hull

Russell Martin, Matt Gill and Dean Thornton were all in attendance at the Swansea.com Stadium to watch Swansea City U21’s beat Hull City this afternoon.

Goals from Cameron Congreve, Liam Smith and Azeem Abdulai were enough to see off Hull who scored a first-half goal through Josh Hinds.

Martin has been keen to stress how important the academy is to the club, so he undoubtedly would have been pleased with the result and the performances of some of Swansea’s next generation of players.

The result keeps Swansea third in the Professional Development League South.

Potter compensation revealed

Former Swansea boss Graham Potter is set to receive around £13million in compensation after being sacked by Chelsea.

Potter joined Chelsea from Brighton in September last year after signing a five-year deal but has been sacked after less than seven months at Stamford Bridge.

It was reported that the remainder of the deal was worth around £50million but the club reached an agreement with Potter to avoid paying that huge sum.

Potter, who took charge of Swansea during the 2018/19 campaign, was sacked by the Blues after winning just 12 of his 31 games in charge with the final nail in the coffin being a 2-0 home loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Coventry set to be bolstered ahead of Good Friday clash

Coventry City are hopeful midfielders Jamie Allen and Liam Kelly will be available for Friday's clash against the Swans following their respective calf and hamstring injuries.

Over the weekend, Coventry boss Mark Robins said: "Jamie and Kels trained on Saturday morning and will be back with me on Monday morning."

The Sky Blues are currently 8th in the Championship, eight points ahead of Swansea.
