Swansea City transfer news as Hull City 'lead race' for Crystal Palace starlet and three ex-Swans coaches tipped for England job

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Tuesday, December 13.

Hull tipped to win Ebiowei race

Former England international Carlton Palmer says he expects Hull City to be at the front of the queue to snap up talented Crystal Palace youngster Malcolm Ebiowei on loan in the January transfer window.

Reports over the weekend suggest the Swans are keen on securing a move for the 19-year-old forward, whose first team opportunities have so far been limited to three appearances off the bench for the Eagles this term.

But Hull, under the stewardship of Ebiowei's former boss Liam Rosenior, are also keen - and could well be well placed to get a move done next month.

Rosenior and Ebiowei worked together while at League One Derby County last season, and Palmer believes their previous time together should give the Tigers an advantage in any race for his signature.

“Well, I think it puts Hull in the front of the race," he told Football League World.

“He’s played for Liam before when he was with Derby. They know each other really well. He played really well, so they’ve got that connection.

“So you would think that Liam and Hull would be in pole position to get a signature.”

Ex-Swans trio tipped for England job

Graham Potter, Steve Cooper and Brendan Rodgers should be among the candidates to take over the England hotseat should Gareth Southgate choose to walk away.

That's the view of Daily Mail columnist Martin Samuel, who believes the former Swans trio have to be among the runners and riders should the Three Lions job become available.

Southgate is considering his future after overseeing a World Cup quarter-final exit at the hands of France last weekend, having overseen England most successful spell since they won the World Cup back in 1966.

Samuel says there are reasons to keep Southgate on board, but believes there are plenty of potential candidates waiting in the wings should he decide to move on.

He wrote: "Eddie Howe and Graham Potter are the obvious candidates for the job and, equally, presumed not to be interested because of great opportunities in club management. Still, try them. There is a world of difference between shunning a post you haven't been offered and turning down one when it is presented.

"Another contender may be Steve Cooper at Nottingham Forest. As coach of England's Under 17 team he reached the final of the European Championship, losing on penalties to Spain, before winning the World Cup with a squad that included Foden, Jadon Sancho, Emile Smith Rowe and Conor Gallagher.

"Yet Cooper was born in Pontypridd, played in Wales his entire career, managed Swansea and - international football aside - worked outside England until joining Forest in 2021. Yet if he can manage England's age group teams, why not the seniors?

"And this brings us to Brendan Rodgers, and the true complexities of what constitutes a foreign or British coach. Rodgers is from Carnlough in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He played for his local club, Ballymena United. Then, at 18, he was signed by Reading.

"Injury soon curtailed his career but he continued to play semi-professional in England and came through the coaching system here. He has subsequently been employed in the English leagues, save for three seasons at Celtic. Rodgers could be an excellent England manager, so long as the FA see him as English. It's a minefield."

Coventry reach CBS Arena agreement ahead of Swans clash

Coventry City have reached an agreement to continue playing at the CBS until the end of the season, with Swansea set to visit this weekend.

The clash with the Sky Blues had previously been plunged into doubt after Coventry were handed an eviction notice 10 days ago by Mike Ashley's Frasers Group, which now owns the stadium.

However, a deal has now been reached that will allow Coventry to stay at their current home until at least the end of the current campaign.

The club said: "The licence that we have signed will run until May 2023 and is subject to EFL approval, which we expect to be granted on Tuesday.

"This represents a positive step forward for the club and its fans. We now look forward to establishing a constructive working relationship with Frasers Group.

"Coventry City will now commence amicable talks with Frasers Group with a view to agreeing a longer-term licence for the club to play at the Arena."

Jones to oversee Sky Blues clash

Robert Jones is set to oversee Swansea's trip to Coventry on Saturday.

The Merseysider has been officiating in the EFL since 2016 and took charge of his first Swans game back in August 2017 – a Carabao Cup clash against MK Dons.

He's since gone on to referee in the Premier League, making his top flight debut back in December 2019, where he oversaw a clash between Brighton and Hove Albion and Sheffield United.

Jones has taken charge of a further 30 Premier League matches, and has been in the middle for a total of eight Swans games. The most recent being a 3-0 win over Millwall at The Den in April 2021.

He will be assisted by Ian Hussin and Natalie Aspinall. The fourth official will be Darren Bond.
