Swansea City transfer news as Eustace backed for top job and Nottingham Forest let Andre Ayew go

These are your Swansea City headlines on Friday, June 2

Eustace backed for Swans move

Carlton Palmer says John Eustace to Swansea would be a good move for the manager but believes he won't want to leave Birmingham City.

Eustace gatecrashed the next Swansea manager odds list this week and he remains joint-second favourite to replace Russell Martin in the SA1 dugout. Ex-Swansea coach Chris Davies is the favourite, while Plymouth Argyle's Steven Schumacher is also placed in the running.

Eustace has been in the Swansea frame before, with the 43-year-old doing a stoic job with the Blues under difficult conditions at St Andrew's.

Palmer believes he would be an apt fit for Swansea but only sees Eustace leaving should the Blues' new ownership want their own man in place in the Midlands.

“I think Eustace has done a fantastic job at Birmingham City this season, but, as we've seen already, Mark Hughes has been linked with the job, as the new CEO used to work with him at Manchester City," he said.

“So, yes, I think it would be a good move for Swansea, should that be the case that leaves. I don't think that Eustace would want to leave Birmingham City, as he believes it's a sleeping giant and that he can do big things there, but that may be taken out of his hands.”

Ayew released

Andre Ayew is one of six players released by Nottingham Forest.

Lyle Taylor, Cafu, Jesse Lingard and Ayew all depart the City Ground as free agents, with the exits of Jack Colback and Jordan Smith having already been confirmed.

Ayew joined Steve Cooper in the east Midlands in early February following his release from Al Sadd, signing a contract until the end of the season.

Now that Forest have preserved their Premier League status for another campaign, they have taken the decision not to renew the Ghana star's deal.

The 33-year-old made 13 appearances for Forest but failed to find the back of the net.

Trunds starring in US

Swansea legend Lee Trundle is currently doing Lee Trundle things in the US as part of the Wrexham team featuring in the TST seven-a-side tournament.

The Red Dragons came from behind in their first game to beat Como 3-2 and in their second match of the competition they smashed the US Women team 12-0 - with Trunds grabbing four goals.

The striker played for the north Wales side before he moved south to join Swansea. The Reds' team features current, former and guest players, with Wrexham first-team coach David Jones the team's player-manager.

The Soccer Tournament sees 32 sides compete in a World Cup-style event in North Carolina.

The winning side will take home $1 million in prize money, with the final taking place on Sunday.
