Swansea City transfer news as critical pundit says 'dollars aren't coming from America' and West Brom keen on Sheffield United's Oli McBurnie

These are your Swansea City headlines on Sunday, August 21

Walsh: 'Dollars aren't coming from America'

BBC pundit and former Swans player Ian Walsh has criticised the level of investment from the club's American ownership.

Head coach Russell Martin revealed after the 2-0 defeat to Luton on Saturday that unless he sells someone in his squad he won't be able to add further to his ranks before the September 1 deadline.

Walsh is unconvinced Martin has the players to play his brand of football, while pointing out investment from the club's American owners hasn't been plentiful enough.

He said on BBC Wales : "I've had text from Swansea fans saying how rubbish they are. It's going in that direction. Unfortunately, where are we, the 20th of August, and we're talking like this about Swansea City.

"I always had a gut feel with the way Russell Martin, the way he wants to play this total football, you can't play total football unless you've got all the Man City players in their team. You can't play that style of play with players you've brought in from a lower division.

"What I would say, what help would it be currently to get rid of Martin? You'd only have to bring a new guy in, the same would happen to the new guy, he'll have to start afresh again, the club aren't going to invest in the new manager and new players so he'll have to deal with the players he has already got."

On finances, he added: "I thought it was quite apt there, we had a message saying 'the buck stops with Russell Martin'. What's the slang word for a dollar? A buck. The dollars aren't coming from America, and they stopped coming a long time ago. That's exactly what's happened."

Baggies keen on Oli

The Sun report that West Brom are keen on former Swansea striker Oli McBurnie.

The Scotland frontman left Swansea in the summer of 2019, signing for Sheffield United in a £20million deal. His move to Bramall Lane hasn't really worked out, with the Blades suffering relegation from the Premier League and McBurnie struggling with injury.

The Sun report states that The Hawthorns club may now make a move after they missed out of Liam Delap, who signed for Stoke City on loan from Manchester City.

McBurnie has seven goals to his name during his time with United.

Darling: We must be more clinical

Swansea defender Harry Darling says they need to be more clinical in the final third of the pitch after another poor performance at home.

Following the 2-2 draw with Millwall on Tuesday night, Swansea were picked off by Nathan Jones' Luton on Saturday in a game where the home side bossed possession but did little with it.

“We conceded two poor goals,” he said.

“Overall we had a lot of the ball, we need to be more clinical up top, be able to change up our game and not be predictable.”

“We’ll analyse it and look to get back to winning ways,” he added.

“This game is done. We’re all disappointed with it but we’ll have a good week training and go again next week.

“All we can do is react, have a good week of training and try and put it right next Saturday.”
