Swansea City transfer news as Christie alternatives lined up, chief gives three signing priorities and AC Milan want former loan man

These are your Swansea City headlines on Thursday, May 19.

Christie deal hits snag

Swansea head coach Russell Martin says the club and Cyrus Christie are "a little bit apart" over the finances of a potential transfer this summer.

The right wing-back is out of contract at Fulham, having spent the second half of the season on loan with Swansea in south Wales. Martin has already revealed his desire to bring the 29-year-old back to Landore on a permanent basis, but it would seem it won't be straightforward.

Finances are likely to be tight this summer, and Martin said that if Christie cannot be signed, they have alternative targets lined up.

"We are probably a little bit apart in terms of where he has been financially and where we are at," Martin said this week.

"I think the conversation will keep going on and it might change again. But we have to have other options apart from Cyrus as well."

Meanwhile, at the same fans' forum Swans chief Julian Winter revealed that defence was the club's transfer priority this summer, with two centre-backs and a right wing-back the targets. Links with Portsmouth attacker Marcus Harness were also played down.

AC Milan keen on Gibbs-White

The Athletic report that Italian giants AC Milan are keeping tabs on former Wolves loanee Morgan Gibbs-White.

The 22-year-old spent the current season with Sheffield United, suffering the unfortunate fate of missing a penalty in the Blades' play-off semi-final defeat to Nottingham Forest in midweek.

Steve Cooper - manager of the Reds, of course - was the one who brought Gibbs-White to south Wales last season, but the attacking midfielder barely featured for the Swans due to injury, before he was recalled by the Molineux club in the January.

Gibbs-White has been in superb form at Bramall Lane this term, and the San Siro outfit have now made a "tentative enquiry" for him.

Allen and Piroe updates

Swansea currently have no room in their midfield to sign Joe Allen and Joel Piroe's representatives are not keen on discussing a new deal for the striker at this moment in time.

Martin delivered updates on the pair at the club's fans' forum this week at the Swansea.com Stadium.

"It's something that Joel's representatives are not interested in at this moment in time," Martin said, adding that there had been no concrete offers received for the 22-year-old as of yet.

"I know Julian has mooted that to them but at this minute they don't think that is an option."

And on Allen, he said: "I don't think there's a gap in the squad for Joe Allen," Martin said. "There may be a gap in the squad [in the future] and he is one person who we would definitely be interested in to fill it.

"But at the moment I think it would be a difficult one. It's whether we can interest Joe enough to wait.

"There are going to be lots of interest and I will just be one of a number of managers who will be interested. So much in football is timing and opportunity."

Joseph and Whittaker on Pompey radar

Portsmouth outlet The News report that both Kyle Joseph and Morgan Whittaker are on Danny Cowley's radar this summer.

Joseph spent the first half of last season on loan with Cheltenham Town before he was recalled by Martin, while Whittaker headed out to Lincoln City for the second half of the campaign.

WalesOnline revealed earlier this month that those players who spent last term away from SA1 were likely to be moved on this summer.

Pompey currently don’t have a single senior striker contracted for next season, meaning a number of strikers will be signed by the Fratton Park club.
