Swansea City transfer news as Allen backs boss 100%, Wolves make Cundle call and Bony's stay in Bolivia looks doomed already

These are your Swansea City headlines on Friday, February 24.

Allen backs Martin

Joe Allen says the Swansea squad are "united" behind the manager and 100 per cent supportive of his methods.

Martin is under pressure in SA1 after a number of poor results saw Swansea slip away from the play-off reckoning. Supporters booed off the team following the 3-1 defeat to Allen's former team Stoke City in the week, and the midfielder says now is the time for the players to stand up and be counted for the head coach.

Following a disastrous January transfer window where no new signings arrived, the mood at the club has taken a downturn and Allen says Monday against Rotherham has to see an improvement.

“We are absolutely united and behind the manager. I can’t speak highly enough of him,” said Allen.

“The same goes for the work we do on the training ground and on a matchday.

“I’ve been fortunate and lucky to work with brilliant managers, and I hold him in the same regard as those top guys.

“I am convinced that in his career he is going to show exactly why.

“The players are 100% behind what he does and the responsibility is on us as players to perform more consistently, and that will be the aim going into Monday.”

Wolves see Cundle potential

The Athletic report Wolves see Premier League potential in Swansea loan man Luke Cundle.

Cundle's season-long loan move has been one of the success stories of the campaign in SA1. Where other loan deals have proved false dawns, such as Rhys Williams, Fin Stevens, Armstrong Oko-Flex and Finley Burns, Cundle has really brought something to Russell Martin's side.

This has been his first loan away from Molineux and The Athletic's Wolves correspondent sees Cundle's situation differently to Dion Sanderson and Ryan Giles, who are also out on temporary stints.

"My reading of these situations is that Sanderson and Giles are probably in a different bracket to Cundle, who is still on his first loan," wrote Steve Madeley in a Q&A with supporters.

"Sanderson and Giles have spent quite a bit of time out on loan, and if Wolves saw them as Premier League players they would have had a chance by now. If Wolves stay up, I imagine they will be loaned out again or sold.

"Cundle is still someone they see as a potential Premier League player, although it’s likely he will need more time to develop."

Bony's debut ends in defeat

Wilfried Bony came off the bench in Always Ready's Copa Libertadores qualifier against Club Magallanes in Chile last night.

The match ended in a 3-0 defeat for the Bolivians heading into the second leg of the tie. Bony got 20 minutes of action and arrived with the scoreline at 1-0, and according to local reports touched the ball 12 times and had no shots on target.

Former Swansea striker Bony is only eligible to play for his new side in the South American-wide tournament, meaning his time with his new club could be over even before it's really started.

A quirk in the Ivorian's contract means he can't play in domestic games for Always Ready, who have reached the limit on foreign registered players.
