Swansea City transfer headlines as Man United swoop for Kalvin Phillips could spark Leeds United Flynn Downes move

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Thursday, April 7.

Man Utd in for Phillips

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a move for Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips.

According to our colleagues at the MEN, the Red Devils have prioritised signing a defensive midfielder this summer and believe Phillips fits the mould. The England international has been in impressive form for Leeds since they were promoted back to the Premier League back in 2020 and seems to have a number of suitors ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham have all been mentioned as possible destinations, but there is believed to be a growing level of confidence that the midfielder can be lured to Old Trafford. Should Phillips depart, it would surely step up speculation linking Flynn Downes with an exit at Swansea City.

Reports have previously suggested that Downes is firmly on the radar at Elland Road, having been identified as a possible replacement should Phillips move on.

Garrick makes Plymouth admission

Jordon Garrick admits he feels 'settled' on loan at Plymouth Argyle, but admits he hasn't yet made any decision on his long-term future at Swansea City.

Garrick has spent the season on loan with the Pilgrims, and has managed seven goals and eight assists in 45 outings. It's run that's left him loving football at Home Park under boss Ryan Lowe.

"I'm really glad I came (to Argyle)," he said. "Anyone who knows me, knows this is the best season I have had professionally. I have played the most games, I have scored my most goals and I have got my most assists.

"I have really found a home here, so I think it's probably one of the best moves I have done."

Garrick has one year left on his current deal in south Wales, but it's not quite clear what sort of role, if any, he will play for the Swans under Russell Martin next term.

“I will take it game by game and if they ask me at the end of the season then we will sit down and speak. Swansea text me quite a lot. They ask me how I’m doing, speak to me about the games, and how Plymouth is as a place and how we are doing as a club.

“I’m really happy, I’m settled. As you can see my football has done the talking really. I think they can tell I’m enjoying being here.”

Obafemi nominated for player of the month

Swansea City forward Michael Obafemi has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship player of the month award for March.

The striker was in red hot form for the Swans last month, netting braces against Coventry City and Peterborough United in what was one of his best months in a Swans shirt. His exploits have landed him on a shortlist alongside three other players. He faces competition from from Luton Town’s James Bree, Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, and Nottingham Forest’s Djed Spence.

The winner will be announced on the morning of Friday April 8.

Robinson to take charge of Rams clash

Tim Robinson has been appointed as the referee for Swansea's clash with Derby County on Saturday.

Robinson has overseen 31 games so far this season in all competitions, and has brandished 138 yellow cards and six red cards. He has so far only taken charge of one Swansea game - the 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers back in February. He will be assisted by Andrew Fox and Nigel Lugg.

Sam Allison will be the fourth official.
