Swansea City have endured plenty of frustration in their quest to bolster their wing-back options this summer.
The Swans recruited Matty Sorinola on loan from Belgian club Union SG, although Russell Martin was eager to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis. Nevertheless, they remain determined to add another wide player to their ranks before the 11pm deadline on September 1.
Joel Latibeaudiere and Sorinola occupied the wing-back berths in Saturday's season opener at Rotherham United. Nathanael Ogbeta was not included in the squad for the contest at the New York Stadium.
It's understood the January signing does not feature in Martin's first team plans, and he has already rejected three moves to leave the Swans this summer. Sources close to the former Manchester City and Shrewsbury Town youngster have suggested he has plenty of interest from clubs in England, Scotland and some from abroad, although no deal has been agreed.
It typifies what has been a testing search for the Swans who have explored the option of signing Rotherham's Chiedozie Ogbene. The 25-year-old scored for the Millers against Martin's men at the weekend and put in a fine display in an advanced role.
However, the top brass at Rotherham are currently sticking to their guns on their high valuation of the Republic of Ireland international - who is now in the final year of his contract with the Yorkshire outfit.
Swansea also attempted to sign Cody Drameh on loan from Leeds United. The 20-year-old excelled during his stint with Cardiff City last term and recently travelled with the Whites' first team on their pre-season tour of Australia.
However, it's understood the Elland Road side were only willing to sell Drameh, with Swansea unable to meet their valuation of the London-born full-back. The Swans' former youth coach Cameron Toshack is currently an assistant to Leeds boss Jesse Marsch and is only too aware of Swansea's style of play, although the touted finances ensured a potential deal swiftly came to a firm halt.
Other options such as Marcus Harness left Portsmouth to join Ipswich Town while Hannes Wolf appears destined to remain at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Cyrus Christie is still a free agent, although Swansea have long felt they do not have the finances to fund a deal to recruit the former Fulham man on a permanent basis.
The Swans have just shy of a month to go to add to their options, although they are still keen to offload several fringe players. Ryan Bennett, Jordon Garrick, Liam Cullen, Brandon Cooper, Steven Benda, Ogbeta and Kyle Joseph are all in the frame to leave either permanently or on loan this summer.
