Swansea City's transfer deadline day ends with a buzz as West Brom striker to join on loan but Jamie Paterson in limbo

Swansea City's transfer window ignited in the final stages of deadline day as they edged closer to completing a deal to sign Karlan Grant on loan from West Brom.

The Swans were determined to add a forward to their ranks following Michael Obafemi's switch to Burnley, and they made a late swoop to bring Grant to the Swansea.com Stadium.

The 25-year-old is now expected to spend the remainder of the season with the Swans.

UPDATES: Swansea City's transfer deadline day as it happened

It comes after what was a frustrating window for Russell Martin's side who saw a total of six players leave and only Morgan Whittaker come in prior to the signing of Grant.

Whittaker was the subject of interest from Rangers throughout January, although the Scottish Premiership side failed to meet Swansea's valuation of the player - who excelled during a loan spell with Plymouth Argyle in the opening half of the campaign.

Jamie Paterson also remains at the club having failed to find a potential suitor after being told he was no longer in Martin's first team plans.

Elsewhere, Swansea pushed to sign a goalkeeper late on deadline day given that Steven Benda will miss the remainder of the season due to injury.

However, their search proved fruitless, although they do have the option of delving into the emergency goalkeeper loan market later on in the season if required.
