Swansea City player ratings as subs impress but defensive sloppiness costly at Preston

STEVEN BENDA 6

Made some good saves to deny Alan Browne and Ched Evans but was helpless for Preston's opener. Good in possession, in fairness, and had precious little to do in the second half.

BEN CABANGO 5

Far too sloppy in the opening stages and was booked for an early foul. Better in the second half and made plenty of important aerial interventions.

KYLE NAUGHTON 5

Operating at right wing-back early on, Naughton had very little success in an attacking capacity but defended well enough, making plenty of clearances. Withdrawn.

HARRY DARLING 5

Neat in possession but made a right mess of a clearance that gifted Brad Potts the game's opening goal. Better in the second half in fairness, but should have done better with a strike from a corner.

JOEL LATIBEAUDIERE 5

Initially on the left of his side's back three, Latibeaudiere got high up the pitch time and time again but always lacked the ruthless instinct up top, regularly playing the ball wide from dangerous areas.

JAY FULTON 6

The Scot was the most likely to create anything in what was a lacklustre first-half showing from Swansea. Drew a fine save from Freddie Woodman and was replaced late on.

MATT GRIMES 5

Always showed for the ball and desperately attempted to use his guile to break Preston down, but to no avail. Booked after a rare error in possession, which means he's suspended for the Wigan game.

RYAN MANNING 6

Bold enough to try and make things happen but didn't get much joy on the left wing in the first 45. Was everywhere in the second half and had a golden chance to nick a point at the death, only to be denied by Woodman.

OLIVIER NTCHAM 5

Had a shot blocked in the first-half and worked hard to keep his side on the ball, but couldn't really get anything going. Subbed in the second half.

LUKE CUNDLE 5

Neat and tidy on the ball but didn't really cause Preston any problems in the first half. Subbed as Swansea pushed.

JOEL PIROE 5

Back from suspension, the Dutchman headed wide from Fulton's cross in the first half and barely had a sniff in front of goal after that. More involved in the second half and was more creative without overly troubling the Lilywhites.

Subs

Jamie Paterson (for Ntcham) - Some good deliveries from corners and added some much-needed creativity high up the pitch. 7

Armstrong Oko-Flex (for Naughton) - Gave the Swans the spark they needed in the final third and put Preston on the back foot. Really pushing for a starting place. 7

Michael Obafemi (for Cundle) - Didn't get a sniff in terms of chances but played a part in keeping Swansea on the front foot. 6

Ollie Cooper (for Fulton) - Fine volley that went just over and worked ever so hard to keep Swansea pushing for an equaliser. 6
