Swansea City news as Russell Martin makes admission ahead of South Wales derby showdown with Cardiff City

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Sunday, March 12.

Martin makes derby day admission

Russell Martin admits his side need a win before the international break to build up some much needed momentum ahead of next month's South Wales derby.

Swansea City have dominated the fixture in recent years. After claiming the first double in the history of the fixture, they once again humbled their rivals earlier in the season with a 2-0 win at the Swansea.com Stadium.

However, the Swans are currently on an alarming run of form that's yielded just three wins from the last 20 league outings, with Martin's side set to take on Millwall and Bristol City before the international break.

"We need a win," Martin said. "We need a win before the break to help us build a bit of momentum ahead of the derby game, and for everyone to feel positive and to build some confidence.

"I really like what I've seen from the lads mentality-wise form the last two games. A bit of zip back, some energy, some confidence.

"We have to go to Millwall on Tuesday and show the same attitude and willingness to fight for each other that we've shown in the last two games, and try and find a way to win.

"It's a place we went to last year and did brilliantly. So we have to do it again."

Fulton taking positives

Jay Fulton insists there are positives for Swansea to take from the defeat to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The midfielder saw a goal chalked off for offside on what was ultimately a frustrating day, with the Swans going down 3-1 at the hands of the visitors.

It's another frustrating result in what's been a difficult run of games for Swansea, but Fulton insists there's reason to be positive heading into Tuesday's clash at Millwall.

“We're disappointed,” he said. “The goals were conceded were pretty poor but I think we went toe-to-toe with a team that are third in the league and on an unbelievable run.

“Their form has been good, they've got good players and they're an athletic team and I think we caused them problems.

“We'll recover, get ready and go again on Tuesday.”

Bony Jnr making a difference

Geoff Bony is showing promising signs of taking after his father, having netting a first-half hat-trick for Swansea's under-18s in the 4-3 win over Watford.

The 18-year-old now has 14 goals to his name this season, and while he's clearly delighted to be among the goals this term, he insists there's more to come.

“It’s always amazing to contribute to the team, and I also have my own personal goals to achieve," he said.

“I’d like to reach 20 goals this season, there’s over a month left to go and I definitely think it's doable, and who knows, I could get more!

“Towards the end, there was a lot of pressure. Some crucial players come into it, we had massive blocks by David [Roberts] and Richard [Faakye] which eventually led us to getting the three points.

“The younger ones also played their part, and they did really well. Overall, I thought it was a good team performance, we have elements to work on, but we’ll nail those down before next week."
