Swansea City news as Michu wants 'dream' role with club and Swans striker earns Wales call-up

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City news for Tuesday, March 21.

Michu keen on Swans return

Jack Army favourite Michu says he'd love to one day make an emotional return to Swansea City.

The Spaniard remains a cult hero with Swans fans following a sensational opening season in the Premier League back in 2012, where after netting twice on his debut against QPR, he went on to notch up 22 goals in all competitions.

Although his form later fell away, the Spaniard is still fondly remembered in SA1, and he admits he's still keeping abreast of the fortunes of his former club.

In a wide-ranging interview with the club's official website to mark his 37th birthday, he admits he'd be interested in one day making a return to south Wales.

"I remember the city with a lot of love and to be honest, I want to come back in the future," he said.

"I remember Swansea with all of the laughs and I was really, really happy there. So I think I will come back.

"I don't know where. I don't know when. But it's one of my dreams. For the rest of my life.

"I was really happy. I have a lot of friends over there and I'm always seeing the results every week and I'm supporting the team because I feel it is my team. Hopefully, one day, I can be back over there."

Cullen answers Wales call

Swansea City striker Liam Cullen has been called up to Rob Page's Wales squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers with Croatia and Latvia later this month.

The striker has been added to the squad on the back of a fine run of form for the Swans, having netted seven goals so far this season, the most recent coming in a 2-0 win over over Bristol City last Sunday.

Cullen follows on from fellow team-mates Ollie Cooper and Ben Cabango in linking up with Page's squad, who kick off a new era in Split this weekend.

They take on Croatia on March 25 before facing Latvia at Cardiff City Stadium three days later.

Cabango hails 'special' clean sheet

Ben Cabango says Swansea City's 'special' clean sheet against Bristol City is evidence their hard work on the training ground is beginning to pay off.

The Swans halted a dismal run of recent form to earn a 2-0 win over the Robins at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Cullen gave Russell Martin's side the lead in the 34th minute, before Olivier Ntcham sealed the victory with another strike 13 minutes from time.

Cabango was at the heart of a defensive effort that kept a first clean sheet since a 4-0 win over Watford on December 30, and the Wales international believes it's a sign that the hard work on the training ground is starting to pay off.

“We’ve been working so hard as defenders to make sure we keep the clean sheet and it feels really good to have done that," he said.

“Because we hadn’t had a clean sheet for so long, it was special to get one.

“It gives us confidence going into the break now and all the boys will be working so hard so when we come back from the international break, we’ll be ready for the Cardiff City game.

“I think we were more clinical and ruthless in both boxes. Our defensive mentality was really good, we were just putting our bodies on the line and then, when we created chances, we took them.

“We could have created a lot more but obviously the second goal gives you a cushion. When we scored the second it was a bit of a relief and then we just stayed solid at the back.

“Two goals was enough to win so we’ve all done our job.”
