Swansea City headlines as former Cardiff City star and Swans target poised to face Martin's men in Blackburn Rovers debut

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Wednesday, February 2.

Giles poised to face Swans

Ryan Giles says he's raring to go for new club Blackburn Rovers - and could even face Swansea City this weekend.

The 22-year-old has joined Rovers on loan for the rest of the season after previously seeing his loan spell at Cardiff cut short by parent club Wolves.

He subsequently hasn't played a single minute of first team football for about a month.

However, he's been training regularly and is believed to be fit enough for a possible debut against the Swans, who coincidentally were mentioned as potential suitors before Rovers swooped.

“I’m ready whenever the manager needs me,” Giles told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“The last time I played was a month ago but I’ve been back at Wolves for the rest of the month training hard so whenever the manager needs me I’ll be there.”

Martin urged to give Obafemi a chance

BBC pundit Iwan Roberts has urged Russell Martin to give Michael Obafemi a chance to shine up front.

The striker was handed a rare start against Luton on Tuesday, following some bright cameos off the bench, but largely struggled to make an impact.

Even so, Roberts is convinced that the former Southampton man should now be given a run of games in order to really get himself up to speed - and hopefully shine alongside fellow striker Joel Piroe.

"I do think there comes a time when Michael Obafemi deserves a run of games," he told the Ellis James Feast of Football podcast.

"Especially given that we don't know what's going on with Jamie Paterson. He didn't get the move he wanted. Is he going to be sulking around now?

"We have to wait and see.

"But I look at Obafemi when he came on at QPR and he came on at Hull. He looks like he has a little bit about him.

"You've heard one or two stories about him moping about the training ground and not being happy. He looks back at it now for me and I think he deserves an opportunity with Joel Piroe up front."

Gomis signs for Galatasary

Former Swans striker Bafetimbi Gomis has returned to Galatasaray.

The 36-year-old has returned to Istanbul following a recent spell with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, where he spent nearly four years, netting 81 goals in 106 appearances.

He last played for the Turkish side back in the 2017-18 season, and scored 29 goals as the club were crowned champions.

This time around, Galatasaray are hoping to stave off a disastrous relegation, with just three points separating them from the drop-zone.
