Swansea City have failed in their bid to overturn the suspension handed to Ryan Manning this week.
The Republic of Ireland international was shown a straight red card for a foul on Harry Wilson late on in the first-half of Tuesday night's 5-1 defeat to Fulham at the Swansea.com Stadium.
It means the 25-year-old is required to serve a three-game ban, although that was increased by an additional match given that Manning was sent off against Blackburn Rovers earlier on in the season.
The Swans appealed the suspension in the aftermath of the loss to the Cottagers, although the Football Association have confirmed they will not be overturning the ban.
As a result, Manning will be unavailable for the upcoming Championship matches against Blackpool, Peterborough United, Birmingham City and Cardiff City.
"I'm not overly surprised. I think we still had some hope it would be overturned," said Russell Martin.
"I was told it was high, it wasn't high. We were told it was excessive force, it wasn't that.
"It was disappointing. Ryan has to learn from it as well. When you slow it down and look at stills it looks really poor. It is what it is. He has to miss four games now. He's been excellent for us. But I think he'll learn from it."

Swansea have been handed a number of injury boosts ahead of their Championship clash with Blackpool on Saturday.
Cyrus Christie is available to feature after being ineligible to play against his parent club Fulham on Tuesday night.
Nathanael Ogbeta and Hannes Wolf will both be in the matchday squad at Bloomfield Road.
Ogbeta is yet to feature since signing from Shrewsbury Town in January after sustaining a hamstring injury while Wolf missed his side's last two games due to coronavirus.
"Thankfully we've got Nat coming back, but he hasn't played at this level before. He hasn't trained a huge amount, he's been back for a week," added the head coach.
"There'll be an opportunity for him at some point for sure. This weekend is probably a bit too early for him. But he's back in the squad.
"We have people who are desperate to play and are ready. Whenever someone is injured or suspended, it gives someone an opportunity and hopefully someone takes it.
"We now have three games in a week and then we have a brilliant period for him in terms of the international break for us to get a lot of work into him.
"Hannes is back training now as well. He's back in the squad and hopefully he'll be ready to play."
And in a further boost, Flynn Downes is also available to feature against the Seasiders after being withdrawn midway through the 5-1 loss to Fulham.
"It was more of a precaution. It was a sore one because of where it was," Martin said on the midfielder.
"He could have played on. But he was limping at half-time so we made the call.
"Thankfully he's come off and it means he's available for tomorrow."
Kick-off in Lancashire is at 3pm on Saturday.
