Swansea City fans pile in as Steve Cooper secures Nottingham Forest promotion

Swansea City fans have been reflecting on what could have been after former boss Steve Cooper achieved promotion to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest.

Cooper, 42, has reached two Championship play-off finals in the last three years but has only been successful once. That single victory came on Sunday (May 29) as the Welshman guided the Reds to a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Wembley Stadium.

The achievement is particularly impressive give Forest were bottom of the Championship standings when Cooper picked up the reins from Chris Hughton back in September 2021.

"I'm really pleased for the players and the supporters," an emotional Cooper said at full-time to Sky Sports. "Everybody connected with the football club deserves this today and we're now really looking forward to a positive future.

"It's relief and pride - this isn't about me but it's changed my life, potentially anyway. We've brought Nottingham to Wembley today, we've taken over the place and here we are in the Premier League."

This is what some Swansea City fans had to say about Cooper's promotion on the WalesOnline website...

Sospanboy: Short, concise assessment...and spot on! Swansea's loss is Nottingham's gain.

RayJ: If only, if only Mr Cooper had been given some financial support.

Rhonddaboy74: I couldn’t be happier for Steve Cooper. Nathan Jones also had a good season with Luton as well. Good to see some Welsh guy’s doing well at management. By the sounds of it, the players and fans love Cooper. It’s a massive shame that the Swans couldn’t bring in an extra one or two players who might have made that extra difference in a promotion push. I hope Forest do well in the premiership. They’ll need to invest a few quid though but best of luck to them.

Old Jack: Congrats to Steve Cooper. Inherited a really good squad and made them play some direct football. Neither Huddersfield nor Forest deserved to be in the play-offs but who cares? Sometimes you have to be lucky. Unfortunatelly for Steve, his style of football is not good enough for the PL, so I expect him to be sacked already in December.

Bazgtr: Well done Cooper (manger of the year) for taking Forest from the bottom to the premiership in such a short time, Just shame it wasn't with Swansea, But at least you're Welsh and hopefully get the backing of the Forest board and owners next season.

BluSwan: So pleased for Steve Cooper. Superb leadership and management achievement to take Forest from the bottom of the championship into the PL

Yankytaff: Congratulations to Steve Cooper and best of luck in the PL.

Reeso123: Massive congratulations to Steve and Tatey. Deemed not good enough by our football savvy owners. He then drags a Forest team from bottom of the Championship to the Premiership with very little investment. I think that says it all really …
