Swansea City complete signing of forward Josh Ginnelly and close in on second deal

Swansea City have announced the signing of Josh Ginnelly on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old has signed a three-year deal in SA1 and becomes the first signing of the Michael Duff era. And he is set to be followed quickly by the second, with Swansea closing in on the capture of Exeter City right-back Josh Key.

Ginnelly joins from Scottish outfit Hearts, where he scored 22 goals in 89 appearances.

He can operate as a striker or winger, with Swansea stating that he will "provide an option across the front line for Duff and his coaching staff, as the Swans prepare for the start of the 2023-24 campaign".

Duff spoke about Ginnelly at his official unveiling press conference on Saturday. He said of the forward: “I knew Josh when he was a youngster at Burnley and all being well he will be good value and offer us something different. He likes to get in behind defences and he’s got real fire."

Ginnnelly's arrival is set to kick off a busy summer for Swansea's recruitment team.

Key is set to be next in the door, with the 23-year-old undergoing a medical at the club. He can play right-back or right wingback and was a target back for Swansea back in January.

His contract with the Grecians has expired but because he is under the age of 24, Swansea will have to fork out a compensation fee.
