Swansea City boss sends transfer warning as Leeds United and Leicester City target duo

Swansea City boss Russell Martin has warned Leeds United and Leicester City that Flynn Downes and Joel Piroe won't be available on the cheap as the Premier League duo express interest. According to Wales Online, the Whites are interested in a move for Downes, who has impressed in a Swansea shirt following his move from Ipswich Town last summer.

He has made 35 appearances across all competitions, scoring three times. Meanwhile, Leicester are scouting free-scoring Piroe, who took his tally to 20 for the season with two well-taken strikes against Derby County last weekend.

It is reported that the Dutchman is available for around £10million.

However, Martin has admitted that the two teams might have to work hard to get the deals over the line. Leeds are looking for a new midfielder in the summer, with Kalvin Phillips' future a subject of debate and the club not having signed any central midfielders since 2018.

Martin said: "I think the owners trust me and Mark (Allen, sporting director) and the judgement of Julian (Winter, chief executive) on what a player is worth, for sure. I don’t think anyone will be leaving on the cheap.

"It’s not going to be a case of ‘if there’s some money coming in, it’s a good profit’."

When asked specifically about Piroe, he said: "(The owners) understand how important he is to us. They understand a few of the guys, how important they are.

"No-one is going to be forced or rushed into anything. We’ve had no offers for him and no conversations about him.

"All I know is that we’ll make sure, if anyone ever leaves the building, that it’s worthwhile for us and it means we can go and find the next one."
