Swans still seeking AFL consistency: coach

Sydney coach John Longmire is challenging his players to replicate their recent AFL excellence to honour the 250 game milestone of Luke Parker.

Longmire is lauding the consistency of his players during their dismantling of St Kilda in a 51 point triumph last Saturday night.

The sixth-placed Swans kept the Saints to just four goals in the match with Longmire now imploring his team to repeat the feat this Saturday against struggling Essendon.

"We showed a good sign on the weekend, our consistency over that four quarters," Longmire told reporters on Monday.

"The week before (in a 23-point loss to Port Adelaide), probably 25, 30 minutes cost us.

"We are still striving for that consistency."

Parker will play his 250th AFL game against the Bombers with Longmire admiring the 29-year-old midfielder's impact on the Swans.

"From the moment he walked into the place, we knew we had a real competitor," he said of Parker, who was pick 40 in the 2010 national draft.

"He was just learning the ropes but he just loved playing footy, loved being out there and competing and he has been like that his whole career.

"He has been a consistent player, a fantastic leader of the footy club."

Parker made his AFL debut in 2011 and in his past nine seasons has averaged 23 or more disposals a game.

"One of the biggest wraps you can give a player is generally when they run out the race, you know what you're going to get every week," Longmire said.

"And Luke has probably been the epitome of that.

"Every week when he runs down the race, you generally know what you're going to get which is a real contest and effort.

"It's a great credit to him to play 250 games and continue to be at the forefront of pushing our younger players through and being a really good role model for them."
