Sven Botman has left Holland Under-21 manager Erwin van de Looi feeling "disappointed" - and the Dutch coach says the Newcastle United defender may have been promoted to the senior squad after an injury this week.
Botman withdrew from Holland U21s' two meaningless friendly games against Romania and Belgium to focus on Newcastle after missing out on the last senior squad for the World Cup.
The Toon 22-year-old was dropped by Eddie Howe for the Bournemouth game for the third time in seven matches following his £34million move from Lille and has won the respect of United fans for his brave decision.

Van de Looi has responded by saying: "It’s a free country but I was disappointed by his statement. We are preparing for next year’s Euro and we want to have everybody on board.”
Meanwhile AZ Alkmaar's centre back Bruno Martins Indi was forced to pull out of the senior squad with a hamstring injury and Botman might have been called up as a replacement, Van de Looi: "That’s what I have told Sven."
