'Suspicious' man stopped by police was wanted in Poland for YEARS

A man spotted acting 'suspiciously' by police in Moss Side was found to have been wanted in Poland for years.

Officers on patrol in the area spotted the man last night (Sunday). They 'came across a male in suspicious circumstances' and 'felt something wasn't right about him'.

He was stopped and searched and asked to provide his details. Police then found a 'red notice' was out for his arrest in Poland.

The man had left the country several years ago to live in the UK even though he was wanted back home, police added. He was arrested at the scene.

Officers said he will now be taken to London for an extradition hearing. Posting about the incident on the GMP Longsight & Moss Side Facebook page, police said: "Detectives from the City of Manchester’s Op Challenger & xCalibre teams were patrolling the #MossSide area tonight when they came across a male in suspicious circumstances.

"He was subject to #StopSearch & his details obtained. Checks revealed the male was wanted in Poland, with an #Interpol red notice out for his arrest.

"This requests that police in any country arrest this male if he’s sighted, to allow him to be returned to Poland. The male left Poland several years ago and remained in the UK, aware that he was wanted back home.

"He’s managed to avoid the being arrested until tonight when GMP’s plain clothed detectives stopped him, feeling that something wasn’t right about him. The male has been arrested and will now be taken to London for an extradition hearing. #ChallengerMCR #XTF."
