A suspected World War Two bomb was left in a car on a Widnes car park shortly before a "controlled explosion".
Footage taken on a mobile phone and shared on social media showed several police cars in Dundalk Field, next to Dundalk Road in Widnes at around 7.50pm on Monday, May 30. In the footage you can hear police counting down before seeing a huge explosion in the fields.
Eyewitnesses said it was unclear where the device came from but nearby roads near Asda on Widnes Road were closed. Children were also seen playing football just metres away.

Cheshire Police has since confirmed that a member of the public attended the Widnes Police Station at around 6.20pm to hand in a "suspected WW2 incendiary device." The device had been left in the man's car in a car park on Widnes Road. No arrests were made, police confirmed.
A spokesman added: "As a precautionary measure the decision was made to put a cordon in place and EOD were called to the scene. The device was taken away to a nearby field, safety measures were put in place and a controlled explosion was carried out by EOD."
