Banksy pelican artwork appears on Walthamstow fish and chip shop

The enigmatic street artist Banksy has completed his fifth London artwork in as many days on the wall of a fish and chip shop in Walthamstow.

The piece, featuring two bird silhouettes, was discovered overnight on the exterior wall of Bonners Fish Bar on Pretoria Avenue.

The artist confirmed it was his work with an Instagram post on Friday.

One larger bird, resembling a pelican, is shown with outstretched wings and its head tilted back while swallowing a fish. Beside it, a smaller bird is pecking at one of the fish symbols on the shop's yellow sign.

The stencil technique and thematic connection to wildlife mirror his other four works unveiled in London this week, including a howling wolf in Peckham, elephants in Chelsea and monkeys on Brick Lane.

It comes after the howling wolf artwork was stolen by thieves just an hour after it appeared on a satellite dish on Peckham’s Rye Road on Thursday.

A group of partially masked men were pictured climbing up a ladder and grabbing the dish before carrying it away.

“I was walking down around 1pm and saw three guys nicking it,” passerby Tom Kellow said, adding: “They had a ladder. There was one guy on the roof and the other two were watching the ladder.

“They saw me filming and it got a bit tetchy. One gave me a kick in the side and another tried to throw my phone on the roof. Luckily it hit a tree and came back down again.”

Mr Kellow reported the theft to police and added: “It's a great shame we can't have nice things and it's a shame it couldn't have lasted more than an hour.”

Metropolitan Police confirmed it received a report of a stolen satellite dish.

“There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue,” the force said.

The piece was posted on Banksy's official Instagram page just like each of the others that have appeared this week.

He verified the goat in Richmond on Monday, two elephants in Chelsea on Tuesday and three monkeys on Brick Lane on Wednesday to his 13 million followers.
