Suspected knifeman named after delivery rider stabbed in face

Police have named a suspected knife man after a delivery rider was stabbed in a daylight attack.

The man was reported to be delivering food on Bridge Road in Brighton-le-Sands, Sefton, on Thursday, March 30, when he was stabbed as a robber tried to steal his bike. Merseyside Police were called to the area at around 1.45pm and a cordon was put in place.

The victim was taken to hospital after suffering injuries to his face and arm in the attack. Following a search of the area, an 18-year-old man from Seaforth was arrested on suspicion of wounding and robbery and taken into custody for questioning.

Merseyside Police has now confirmed Jacob Dickinson of Sandown Road, Seaforth, has been charged with robbery and s18 wounding. He was remanded into custody and appeared in court on Saturday 1 April.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said in a statement on Thursday: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation after a man was stabbed following an attempted robbery on Bridge Road.

“Although an arrest has been made, our enquiries continue, and we’d still urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or captured the incident on dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage which may be vital to the case.”

DI Mulcahy added: “Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.

“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.

“I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.

“We continue to seek out those involved in knife crime, enticing young and vulnerable people to carry weapons or involved in gangs.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, DM @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 491 of 30 March.
