Suspected gas leak in Scots town as man and woman in hospital

A man and woman have been rushed to hospital following fears of a gas leak.

The woman, 31, and man, 40, were taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment on Saturday afternoon, but are not thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Police officers investigating the incident cordoned off an area of King Street, Stenhousemuir, while conducting their probe.

Locals took to social media to raise the alarm to other residents.

One said: "The police were everywhere, there were officers all over the police on King Street.

"I had a nosey about and it looked serious."

Another added: "It was closed from the phone box down to the top of the hill.

"There were about eight police and two ambulances at the scene."

A third added: "We saw it going up the way and by the time we came back we had to come down Johnston Avenue, it was blocked both ways.

"I just hope they are OK."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to reports of a suspected gas leak on King Street, Stenhousemuir, Larbert, around 2.25pm on Saturday, April 23, 2022.

"A 31-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man have been taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

"Officers remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances."

An SGN spokesperson said: "We attended a property in Stenhousemuir at the request of the Police following reports of a gas leak.

When our engineer arrived, the gas supply to the property had already been turned off at the meter.

We carried out safety checks to ensure the property was gas safe and left shortly after."
